How can I get WebAdvisor to work for a Google search in Windows 7?
On both my Windows 10 machine and my Windows 7 machine, I am using Firefox Quantum 62.0.2 and the information at Tools>Add-on>Extensions says that McAfee WebAdvisor 6.0.0.136 is enabled.
I get the McAfee WebAdvisor green icons to show up for a Google search on my Windows 10 machine. However, I cannot get them to show up for a Google search on my Windows 7 machine.
Why do I get the green icons in a Firefox Google search on the Windows 10 machine, but I do not get them on the same search on the Windows 7 machine??? Google is a default search engine for Firefox on both machines.
I might add that I get the green icons for a Bing search on both the Windows 7 and the Windows 10 machine. Bing is also a default search engine on both machines. But, only Windows 10, and not Windows 7, will show the green icons in a Google search. This is strange!! What can I do to get them to show up in the Firefox browser Google search on Windows 7??
I read a post there dated 9/21/2018 that said Firefox 62 doesn’t support WebAdvisor. But that doesn’t seem to be true, 1) McAfee WebAdvisor is listed as an add-on; 2) I get the green icons when I do a Bing Search on my Windows 7, and I get the green icons when I do a Bing search AND a Google search on my Windows 10. It’s only a Google search on Windows 7 that does not produce them. What can I do to get them to show up for a Google search in Windows 7?

Hi, Web Advisor is no longer being offered on https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/
Which is pretty close to not supported.
If you have questions about Web Advisor please post in their Community Forum as you would for any Extension you have installed in Firefox : https://community.mcafee.com/t5/WebAdvisor/bd-p/mcafee-webadvisor
Do you get the identical Google results page layout on both systems? Google is notorious for running experiments on its users that can last days or weeks, so I wonder if Windows 7 is being served something just a little different from Windows 10. Sometimes clearing your Google cookies will exit the experiment, but not always.
So pardon the cliche, but have you tried:
Cache and Cookies: When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
(1) Clear Firefox's Cache
See: How to clear the Firefox cache
If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.
(2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site, try either:
- right-click (on Mac Ctrl+click) a blank area of the page and choose View Page Info > Security > "Clear Cookies and Site Data"
- (menu bar) Tools > Page Info > Security > "Clear Cookies and Site Data"
- click the padlock or "i" icon in the address bar, then the ">" button, then More Information, and finally the "Clear Cookies and Site Data" button
In the dialog that opens, you will see one or more matches to the current address so you can remove the site's cookies individually without affecting other sites.
Then try reloading the page. Does that make any difference?
To Pkshadow: Thanks for your link to McAfee. I've had a number of reasons for starting with the FF forum, though. 1) I posted another, different question there in August and I never got a reply, so I didn't have much hope that I'd get an answer to a new post. 2) I've read the postings there about WebAdvisor. They don't seem to be of much help. 3) My subscription to McAfee is via ATT (my email/internet provider) and so I end up having to route my questions through ATT, which has not ever been very successful. 4) it looks like there is one person who reads all of the postings (the moderator) and he usually PMs his answers!! 5) I think it's a FF issue b/c a) why do the green icons show up for both Google and Bing on Windows 10, but they only show up for Bing on Windows 7; b) why does FF list WebAdvisor as an add-on and keep updating it, if FF thinks it's superfluous; c) I figured out how to add Yahoo in both Windows 7 and Windows 10 (by finding a Yahoo search in my History with the green icons showing, and bringing it up, which then allowed me to add it as a FF One-Click Search Engine [it hadn't been on the list before this] by clicking on the little down-arrow to the left of the search box and choosing to add "Best of Yahoo ...(don't remember the rest of the text for the choice)"; this signaled to me that FF was working behind the scenes to allow this non-default search engine to be added; the subsequent Yahoo searches have the green icons.
So, if FF can do this in Windows 7 for a FF-default search engine (i.e., Bing) and for a FF-non-default search engine (i.e., Yahoo) , why can't it do it for a different FF-default search engine (i.e., Google)? There must be some problem between FF and the Google search engine, specific to FF on Windows 7.

It should be the same between Windows 7 and Windows 10. These use the same installer (assuming the same "bits", 32-bit vs. 64-bit).
Does WebAdvisor have any settings for what sites it works on? Sometimes settings are available from an extension's toolbar button (either left-click or right-click, it varies) or on the Add-ons page. To check there, either:
- Ctrl+Shift+a (Mac: Command+Shift+a)
- "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
- type or paste about:addons in the address bar and press Enter/Return
In the left column of the Add-ons page, click Extensions.
Then scan down the right side for WebAdvisor and look for either an Options button or a "More" link (in the case of a More link, scroll to the bottom of the details page).

Yes, the Windows 7 machine and the Windows 10 machine are both 64-bit.
Regarding WebAdvisor settings: In FF, Tools > Add-ons > Extensions > shows McAfee WebAdvisor. There is both an options button and a More link. More says McAfee WebAdvisor 6.0.0.136 Last Updated May 2, 2018 (Programs and Features says it was installed on Oct 19, 2017, pre-dating my first installation of the newly released FF Quantum in Nov, 2017.) The options icon allows checking for updates (none available now), a list of recent updates (none, but I don't know how "recent" is "recent"), installing add-on from a file, debugging, updating automatically (checked),
No settings for sites McAfee WebAdvisor works on.
I appreciate your detailed instructions.
I am planning on replying to your earlier post (today, 12:15 AM) asking if I get the identical Google results page layout on both systems, i.e., Windows 7 and Windows 10, and giving directions for clearing the FF cache and Google cookies. (I am learning new things here!! Thanks) One question, though: are you suggesting cache- and cookie-clearing on both machines? Or if one, which one?

Just the one with the problem. :-)
