Firefox now ignores the "open link in new tab" setting, which severely degrades browsing experience. Firefox does not allow the "save link" option to work, for some reason just adds a "#" at the end of the URL. I'm running OSX 10.11.4, but users over at www.reddit.com/r/firefox using different operating systems are reporting the same issues. I tried using a backup to downgrade to 46.0, but the issue persists.

I think they fixed it before I tested: https://www.reddit.com/r/firefox/comments/4i2lw0/firefox_tablet_v4601_now_ignores_reddit_setting/

Try reloading the page bypassing the cache (Command+Shift+r) in case your Firefox doesn't immediately pick up changed script files (or whatever changed).

Okay, I need a little more information on this.

Firefox now ignores the "open link in new tab" setting

Do you mean the right-click/Ctrl+click context menu item? Or the setting in Preferences to divert new windows to a new tab instead? Or do you mean the site is coding the links to open in a new tab but Firefox is ignoring it?

Firefox does not allow the "save link" option to work, for some reason just adds a "#" at the end of the URL.

Do you have that problem with ALL links or are there particular links where you see this? Adding a # at the end of the current page's URL is characteristic of following link that runs a script, if the site's script failed or forgot to cancel the link navigation. If you have an example of a problem link, could you provide, um, a link to that page and indicate which link you're trying to save?

I mean that the site has a "preferences" page for your user profile, and prior to upgrading enabling this setting worked just fine, but now it appears to ignore that setting, and all links open in the same tab, even when "open links in new tab" is enabled.

Similarly, reddit provides a "save link" functionality, (beneath every post are options, share, save, reply, report, etc.) which is specific to your user profile, it appears to affect all links, and also seems to interfere with your ability to remove existing links from your "saved" list.

With "new window" turned on in Reddit settings, there is a script that intercepts your mouse click and inserts the necessary target attribute into the link before navigating, which launches the link in a new window or tab.

Note: I am not using the Reddit Enhancement Suite extension, if that makes any difference.

Could you test in Firefox's Safe Mode? In Safe Mode, Firefox temporarily deactivates extensions, hardware acceleration, and some other advanced features to help you assess whether these are causing the problem.

If Firefox is not running: Hold down the option key when starting Firefox. (On Windows, hold down the Shift key.)

If Firefox is running: You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

and OK the restart.

Both scenarios: A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).

Any improvement? (More info: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode)

This is correct, working for me as well. Anyway, thanks for the help!
