my old laptop died(compaq),had to get new one(hp)without firefox, but can't retrieve old data.

I was given an old laptop (Compaq) several years ago to use for e-mail and photos. It had Mozilla firefox installed and I was pleased with it. Not being tech savy, I didn't back-up anything. The laptop froze not allowing me to login. Took it to be looked at and was told it was shot. Purchased a new laptop(HP) that does not have Mozilla, but I would like to get my photos back. Is this possible without adding firefox? What would happen to my new laptop if I uploaded mozilla? They told me for $100, they might be able to recover info. I'm on limited income and really can't afford that.

I am assuming you mean photos you had put into the downloaded folder? That would on the operating system not Firefox. Firefox only stores your settings, history, bookmarks. Anything downloaded is stored under the download folder on the operating system.
