I've just updated my Mac's Firefox to 34.0.5. In the previous version I had used about:config to set the browser.download.useToolkitUI to true so that the old-style downloads window always came out during downloads. Now I find that setting is apparently no longer being respected??? I've tried setting it to false, restarting, setting it to true, restarting again. And still the only response to a download is that the annoying arrow in top-right goes blue.

Is there a way to get the downloads window to come out in this new version?

Keazen oplossing

That pref has only been supported for a few Firefox versions and doesn't have effect in current releases, so you can reset the pref to remove it from about:config on the next start.

You would have to find an extension if you want a Downloads Manager that work differently then the currently used version.

Oh, darn! Well thanks anyway for such a quick and comprehensive response. I'll give the add-ons you mention a try.
