In Ubuntu 14.04 LTS desktop OS, the Firefox 33.0 window runs from the top of the monitor screen to just beyond the bottom of the monitor screen so I can't make it smaller

You can check for problems caused by a corrupted localstore.rdf file.

You can try to open the system menu via Alt+Space and use the items in that menu to resize the screen with the keyboard.
