I would like to uninstall Firefox 8.0.1 and replace it with an earlier version, since the Download function of Real Player doesn't work with it.

I use RealPlayer Plus 14. When I updated to Firefox 8.0.1, the Download to RealPlayer function stopped working. I have talked to the people at RealPlayer who have told me that the Downloader will not work with the latest Firefox, so I want to uninstall this, and replace it with an earlier version, but I am not sure how to do this.

I have no problem with the download working in RealPlayer 15, which is the latest version. I would try updating and see if that solves the problem. It could be that they've fixed it now in the 15 update.

For anyone having problems with divx player, do the same and update. Mine wasn't working after updating to Firefox 8.0.1 until I downloaded the latest version (DivX Plus Web Player 2.1.2.529). It comes in the free download on http://www.divx.com/ called DivXInstaller.exe. But I would only download the "DivX Plus Web Player" (make sure it's the WEB player, not the one that just says plus player), and not the other 2 components (the converter and codec pack) (you'll see all 4 before you actually download, and can check off the ones you want to download) since I heard people have had problems with the other 3.

Well, yes I could do that, and I almost did, except that I have bought an upgrade to RealPlayer 14, which allows me to burn DVD's. In rather small print, RealPlayer informed me that the added features of RealPlayer Plus would not work, and therefore I would have to purchase RealPlayer Plus 15. And I'll be damned if I do that. Re-installing Firefox 3.6.2 didn't work, by the way. It would add the appropriate plug in, but then every time I tried to use it, it would show it as "disabled"; I would re-enable it, and then try to use Real Player, to be told that the appropriate plug-in would need to be added to Firefox, and then I would check the add-ons and find the plug in "disabled". And so on.

That didn't work at all for me.

The problem I'm facing, since a long time, is that in the Real Player preferences, the only browser for which I can select the download option to be available, is Internet Explorer. Despite several updates to both Firefox and Real Player, Real Player just does not recognise that Firefox is installed.

Yes, I have that problem, too. No matter what I do, I get the same notice. Everyone offers the same solution, which is to get (which usually means buy) an upgrade and everything will work, and this could go on forever.

Sorry, could you be more specific? Exactly what did you try that didn't work?

Update: after rebooting my computer I'm relieved to say that the download option is finally working in Firefox. Upon starting Firefox I saw a message saying that the RealPlayer add-on wanted to modify Firefox. I should mention though that among the things I tried before rebooting, was to uninstall all DivX Player programs except for the Web player, as mentioned in the first post. Also, Firefox is still not listed in Real Player's Preferences > Downloading tab as an installed browser, and yesterday I unchecked then rechecked the download option in that tab.

Could you set me straight on a couple of things I am a little unclear on? What version of Firefox are you running, and which version of RealPlayer are you running, and what was the specific name of the add-on for RealPlayer that allowed the download function to work?
