I need to stop a setting that prevents firefox from opening a new page while at a web site or browsing, and can't figure out which setting or add on is causing the problem.

Do you mean Tools > Options > Advanced > General : Accessibility : [ ] "Warn me when web sites try to redirect or reload the page"
