Hi there. This morning the Customized Menu Bar in my T-Bird was there, as confirmed by my wife... and then it wasn't. No idea what happened. I spent a long while poking around to try to find what had been inadvertently changed, and came up empty. So, went in to Customize Toolbars and rebuilt the Mail toolbar as I recalled its layout, as we use it a lot every day. Now it seems to be fine. T-Bird is kinda like Windows, where there's more than one way to do something, and sometimes several paths to the same function. I know there are new Keys, or whatever they're called, that replace or replicate the old Customized Menu Bar. But we have been using T-Bird for ages, and though I've noted all the updates and improvements over the years, we are pretty comfortable with the basics that we use, and have not made many changes. So, we're OK. Just thought it was weird what happened. Thanks for being there. Greg Moehl

re :This morning the Customized Menu Bar in my T-Bird was there, as confirmed by my wife... and then it wasn't.

We need to clarify what you are talking about.

What OS do you use? I'm assuming Windows, but it's something you should let us know about. What version of Thunderbird ar you using ? Important to know because layout and instructions vary depending upon version.

The 'Menu Bar' toolbar cannot be customised. The 'Menu Bar' toolbar is the one with 'File, Edit, View, Go, Message, Events & Tasks, Tools, Help'. It's a really useful toolbar. You can initialise it via the 'Menu app icon' - it has 3 horizontal lines. 'Menu app icon' > 'View' > 'Toolbars > select 'Menu Bar'

There is a new 'Unified Toolbar' which can be customised and it works similar to the old 'Mail Toolbar', however thenew Unified toolbar is now used in various tabs and can be customised depending upon the tab you are using. So if you set it up for the 'Mail' tab and then were viewing th Calendar or Address Book, then the Unified toolbar will look different.

Hi. Thanks for getting back to me. Windows 10 Home, Version 22H2, OS Build 19045.6575 T-Bird Version 140.5.0esr | Released November 12, 2025 To create my "Customized Toolbar", which sits just above the 'Menu Bar' toolbar, I right-click the blank space to the right of the 'Menu Bar' toolbar, and then just use the "Customize Toolbars" page/tool to set up my custom Mail tool bar. It is just: "Write Reply Get Messages Forward Delete Print Address Book"

WTF? So while working on this reply to you, I just noticed the Calendar button that sits off on the right side of the blank toolbar space has disappeared. Wonder when THAT happened. <<<<<<grumble>>>>>>> So I added a Calendar button to my Customized Toolbar. How many MORE of these disappearing buttons are going to be deflicting my T-Bird??

Hi, again. Realized the Calendar button was NOW situated at the tail end of the Customized Toolbar. Went back in to customize further, and added a Flexible Space, and then adjusted the space to push the Calendar button over to where it belongs, on the far right corner of the toolbar space. <<<<<sigh>>>>> Computers is fun. Thanks, greg
