resizing a photo received on Thunderbird and save it to send out to others in the reduced size

I received a photo on Thunderbird...It is too large to forward to others. How can I resize it, save it in the reduced size and then send it out to others. I am able to use the View 0ut to get it to the proper size but when I try to send it , it reverts back to the larger size??

There is an addon, shrunked image resizer, that may serve your interests, but for regular use, I suggest getting a freeware program such as Irfanview for that.
