Just got a new laptop. Now when an email has remote content, there is no longer the "option" button, all there is available is "always allow" button. When I do, I get an error message that "peer reports are incompatible or unsupported protocol version".

It may help if you post an image of this and tell us what OS you are using and what version of Thunderbird because I'm using the latest version of Thunderbird (102.6.1) on Windows 10 OS and I still see the following message on a yellow background because I do not allow any remote content to be displayed by default.

To protect your privacy, Thunderbird has blocked remote content in this message followed by an 'Options' button which has a drop down selection.

Any emails in the 'Junk' folder do not offer to display any remote content, so you will not see that message. Instead you may see a the following message on a yellow background. Thunderbird thinks this message is junk mail followed by a 'Learn More' and a 'Not Junk' buttons.

AS per info: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/remote-content-in-messages

In 'Settings' > 'Privacy & Security' Under 'Mail Content' section The default setting is to block / not allow any remote content for very obvious reasons, so the following will NOT be selected: 'Allow remote content in messages'

The 'Exceptions' button may display anything you specifically have selected to be allowed, but by default is empty. It may be worth checking to see if you have got anything stored in that area.
