I use google drive and W10. I see tbird files and folders in the Documents folder.

google drive backs that folder up as well as a few others, and it counts against my usage quota.

Since all mail is IMAP, can I move the tbird files and folders elsewhere so it doesn't count against my g drive quota?

@Toad-Hall, thank you, I'm familiar with imap. Up to a few months ago, I had a newer version of TB. I uninstalled it, and installed the older, stable version. I went with all defaults on the install. I don't know where the files are normally installed, if it's not Document. I usually never change default installation folders. Where do they normally get installed?

Given that Thunderbird stores all of it's data in appdata unless you change the default locations offering advice is very problematical as I, nor anyone else but you, knows what you did to get your data where it is.

Good news, there's another way. I am able to have g'drive not sync that folder and that solves it.

re : I see tbird files and folders in the Documents folder.

I presume you have done this deliberately as it is not the default setup.

Please note that Imap means emails are stored on server and you synchronise folders with server to get a view of what is on server. Even if you download full emails in order to read offline, do not assume that means you have a separate copy on your computer in imap accounts as a backup.

ok, I see it, thanks. Found where it officially is. Maybe I placed a copy of it in Docs a while ago. Memories can be a funny thing.
