How do I recover lost history and bookmarks from Time Machine.
I know this Q was asked recently but I cannot follow the disjointed and part missing thread. Would appreciate if someone could give me a complete reply. I know how to display hidden files and find my Application Support folder but profile files are all several years old. I have up to date Time Machine backups.
I am running Firefox 58.0.2 on OSX but inadvertently ran Firefox 34 and now my v58 has lost all history and bookmarks.

I restored the places.sqlite as specified. Nothing. Then I hit upon restarting Firefox and Voile - all history and bookmarks restored. Thank you.

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.
- Help -> Troubleshooting Information -> Profile Directory:
Windows: Show Folder; Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder - http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
That should give you the location of the profile folder so you know where to look in the Time Machine backup. You would have to restore the places.sqlite file.
Note that in Mac OS X v10.7 and later, the "~/Library" folder in the Home directory where the profile folder is located is a hidden folder.
