My computer crashed recently, I was told the repairer backed up all my files. I went in to find my emails, could not find anything. My computer has been working for a month, I've accumulated some important emails again, how do I back them up so I don't loose them all again?

re : I was told the repairer backed up all my files.

Depends upon what the repairer did. Do you see a 'windows.old' folder on your desktop?

mind you this folder is auto created by Windows and is kept on desktop for about a month.

When repairer said he had backed up files, did he only backup the very obvious 'My documents' 'pictures' etc folders ?

The repairer should also have backed up your 'User Account' > 'Appdata' folder. As this is the default location for storing eg: Profiles on non Windows installed applications.

Note: if you cannot see these folders, make hidden files and folders visible: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Show_hidden_files_and_folders

Your Profile name folder should be located here: C:\Users\<Windows user name>\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\<Profile name>\

'Profile name' folder is usually called 'xxxxxxxx.default' where the x's are letters and numbers.

But if you copy paste the 'Thunderbird' folder to an external storage device, you will have absolutely everything to do with the profile.

Note: make sure Thunderbird is closed before backing up.
