I am getting overlapping tabs and foreign language symbols at the top of my screen. Why?

In the last couple of days, I have begun to get random foreign language characters at the top of my screen, in both the tabs row and the address bar. At the same time, the tabs at the top overlap each other and are hard to see clearly. Any ideas why and how to correct? Can send screen capture of the problem, if it would help.
