Localization discussions

Article content, "for", and selectable versions of Firefox.

  1. Forgive me for the title…

I updated the Italian version of the Live Bookmarks - Subscribe to a web page for news and updates article.

The last revision of the article includes instructions and images {for not fx29} and {for fx29}.

My question: How can I verify if the content {for not fx29} is correct if the oldest version of Firefox that I can select is the version 31 and I can't see a preview?
I had to carefully check the syntax because the syntax highlighting stopped working (see Bug 1174927), but I can't see a {for not fx29} preview by clicking on the Preview Content button...
I think it's absurd that a localizer must download a version of Firefox prior to version 31 to be able to view content not selectable by the version selector.

Please, consider this issue also for future edits of the KB articles.
    Michele

What I do in those cases is to select an older version like 31, which makes the example URL https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/live-bookmarks#firefox:win7:fx31 for Firefox 31 on Windows 7. Change 31 to 28 to make it https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/live-bookmarks#firefox:win7:fx28 and enter that, then reload the page.

EDIT: For revisions that haven't been approved yet, I do the same thing, but I view the revision from the article History. For example, https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/live-bookmarks/revision/97500#firefox:win7:fx28

We do need guidelines on when to include or remove older content when revising an article with sections that apply to old versions of Firefox. John99 started a new discussion here:

    Thanks Alice (as usual) :-)
The trick that you suggest is good. The problem is that, when I'm editing an article for my locale, and I click on the Preview Content button, the link I get does not allow me to apply your suggestion.
For example, this is the link of the en-US preview https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/live-bookmarks/edit#preview and this is the Italian link https://support.mozilla.org/it/kb/Segnalibri%20Live/edit#preview (I know... we must change the Slug).
How can I apply your suggestion? The only way is to click the Submit for Review button and only then I can see if the content and the images are correct. If everything went well... hip hip hooray, but if something went wrong? I must edit again...

  4. The only way I've found is to submit the revision, then view the revision from the article History and apply my suggestion... for example, https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/live-bookmarks/revision/97500#firefox:win7:fx28

Hopefully, we can get input from Admin and edit this thread (linked from the How to use for article) with information about which versions are no longer supported, so that we can remove them from article revisions.

  5. Change {for not fx29} to {for not fx39} and you'll be able to preview the old content by selecting Firefox 38 (or older). You have to change it back before submitting, of course :-)

If we don't decide to remove the pre-Australis content (see last two comments), it would be great to add Firefox 28 to the selector.
