  1. Hello everyone,

SUMO is going to do an audit of all the guideline documents and content in the forum, later we will do processes and feature housekeeping. For now, the audit is to find out what info to keep, what to throw out and what to add going over to the new Lithium platform.

Each of the document below are being audited this first round of Sprint 1(two weeks) and for more context please see the recording of the platform meeting which can be seen here: https://air.mozilla.org/channels/sumo-meetings-channel/

    1. [Get Involved] What should you think about, feel, and then do when looking at the new Get Involved Page?

Why do this now and by this method. ?

Maybe it is clarified and explained in the new Platform Meeting

We will need to change some articles to fit with the methods of working in the new forum that surely is the essential and main priority. Articles must make sense and have steps that work with the new forum.

Why rush to give articles a makeover and rebranding |change of emphasis| improvement| or whatever surely that can wait and be done at leisure when NOT rushing to meet deadlines for the forum migration

You probably are not referring to the weekly community meeting here https://air.mozilla.org/weekly-sumo-community-meeting-august-10-2016/

Where are the New Platform Videos ?

I did not see any mention of this in its associated etherpad https://public.etherpad-mozilla.org/p/sumo-2016-08-10/timeslider#632 and in the air mozilla video only brief mention of deadlines at 11m25s to 12m40s It does mention platform meeting due Thursday but we edited out mention of platform meetings on Contributor News & Resources

There is the new wiki https://wiki.mozilla.org/Support/New_Platform_Meetings That is totally lacking in any specific links although it says Thursdays.

The air Mozilla Calendar https://air.mozilla.org/calendar/ does list Wednesday Sumo meets but I see nothing Sumo related on Thursdays The link given by Rachel is https://air.mozilla.org/channels/sumo-meetings-channel/ but following that I see previous and upcoming Wednesday meetings but not Thursday meetings.

Thank you John99, I agree with you here. At the moment this was to identify just what to keep and what to get rid of for the new platform. The purpose of an article can be the same with completely new content for the new platform. The Get Involved task above is one of two or three major pages that are going to be different on the new platform (the other is Meet the Team ) The Get Involved page is a major page and one that will be visited alot, which would call for a new "think-feel-do" exercise. (I hope I am not butchering it)

  8. I hope you have some method of sumarising & linking the proposed changes and are not expecting everyone to look at everything in a web of links.

A lot of the changes that are truly relevant my not be possible to document until we know more about the new forum its procedures and features.

I just do not see the point in trying right now to improve and change the feel of articles.

REGISTRATION I do know for instance someone reported issues unable to reset password /questions/1134840 with registration. I suspect confusion with email address, firefox-account, forum display-name forum-user-name and apparently caused by our email messages. I do think that is not something we could possibly even consider documenting correctly without more details on how the new forum works. I know when I looked in 2013 I did not particularly like what I saw. the-edmeister commented it was even worse than my initial post indicated, and Kadir said changing to Persona would resolve issues.

I think we need to be concentrating on the nuts and bolts of the forum changes. But we just do not know what they are. I see from your flow diagram that we will still have a contributor and non contributor registration. But what are the actual emails going to look like ? Are we going to still have display names and separate usernames on Lithium ? And in what way are contributors and none contributors treated differently on Lithium

  9. Hi John,

It's a lot of work that's why we're taking small steps. Right now we're only focusing on the content (so text only) for the pages that are referring to Community Guidelines and the Get Involved Page. I don't expect there will be major changes in the content, mainly a clean-up, refreshing the tone, eliminating what is obsolete, merging content with other pages that refer to the same thing. We are not talking about design or functionality yet.

Everything else is out of scope for now. We'll talk about those at the right time. As you said it is very hard to decide on anything until we know how the new forum will look like. So that's why all the stuff about registration, user flow, contribs vs non-contribs etc will be discussed later when we start talking about actual design and functionality.

We're going to work on two week Sprints. Every sprint we're going to focus on a few things we want to get done. This Sprint which ends this week we're working on the content piece. Next week it will be something else. I also expect that the Lithium guys will have a team ready very soon so things will get a bit more serious (as in we'll start talking about functionality etc).

  10. Hi Madalina, Thanks for the attempted clarification.

I know we have to start somewhere, and try to take it in an orderly manner. I am not trying to be awkward, but I am still not clear on exactly what is being discussed now.

all the stuff about registration, user flow, contribs vs non-contribs etc will be discussed later

It looked from Rachel's OP that Registration was being discussed.

Includes the heading Registration and the workflow schematic clearly including <REGISTER>

    m7n-register

Alice has already commented about that support Forum document in a post above. I am unsure whether Alice then decided not to comment within the document itself, or whether that is just not an appropriate link for the latest edit ? (Can you clarify that please Madalina, Alice & Rachel)

It strikes me that it is rather difficult to comment on the text of these pages when we are not even certain if the workflow they relate to is going to remain very similar or not. Will we even have contributors and none contributor registration, won't that affect the text of the documents ? and the schematic.

  12. Thanks for a reply Alice, I do not have edit permissions yet, for Support forum google doc but I don't think that will change the fact that unlike etherpads we do not see a history, so do we see what is added or subtracted, and by whom, unless we make a comment ?

Without comments it is not obvious what modifications have been made, and it could be easy to have circular actions and reverse one another's modifications unintentionally.

  13. Hi John,

No worries, I understand this can be confusing :)

So first of all the deadline. We're working in sprints, the first sprint started on August 8 and it is finishing on Aug 24. So we're still within schedule.

Google Docs does have a history, you need to click on File -> revision history. You might not be able to see that though if you're not signed into a Google account. You can edit anonymously no problem. I would just suggest everybody to leave their name when they make an edit just like we would do on an etherpad.

You should be able to edit the Support Forum doc now

I'll get a project page up soon with the timeline of everything and I hope that will make it less confusing. We have a Project Manager for the Lithium side finally assigned to us so I'm working with him. By Monday we should have everything clarified.

Update : Support Forum Google Doc (the one everyone is now editing and commenting in) I made comments in the google doc body and as linked Comments.

    • Is the whole google doc becoming the basis of a multi screeen Lithium webpage ?
    • Are whole KB & multiple documents or being included rather than linked to ??
    • Or maybe something in between and it is a Lithium page with a Table Of Contents

Maybe the platform meeting on AirMo will clarify things when it appears.

  19. I do not know if it is correct to post in this open forum, or whether some matters are only being linked for contributors. The platform meeting mentions an agenda and mentions training available now, I do not see links to them, not even on the platform airmo page.

I have also checked Michal's public control document SUMO Platform migration communication plan google doc and do not see any updates on that.

Sounds like the only changes for the first sprint are in progress already with Joni writing compressed KB content for lithium.

Sounds like the only changes for the first sprint are in progress already with Joni writing compressed KB content for lithium.

Support forum google doc P.S. I didn't add Get community support ... should that be added?

I added Get community support (a "Navigation" category article) under "Troubleshooting", since the "Additional resources" links at the bottom of that article are also useful for contributors to find answers, especially if the support forum database of previously answered questions isn't migrated.

Under "How to get involved", I added Contributor News & Resources since there are lots of links there that are useful for contributors, including communication channels and how to get involved in meetings.
