Media Gallery upload bug - has anyone else seen this?

  1. When I uploaded the image ExtensionIDtooltip to the Media Gallery to use in my post here, /forums/contributors/709705?&page=2#post-55788 somehow the information from the previous image I had uploaded the day before, SubmittedCrashReports-Win7 was displayed in the upload dialog. I changed the name to the new image but in the process, the other image from the day before got deleted .... and that one was actually a replacement image for another one that somehow got deleted, that was being used in Forum Response - Firefox crashes canned response.

I then uploaded a new image for the one that got deleted, using the exact same name SubmittedCrashReports-Win7 and for good measure, I uploaded a second copy named SubmittedCrashReports-Win7-new, in case the last uploaded image gets deleted again. See my post on that deleted image here: /kb/forum-response-firefox-crashes/di.../5087.

Anyway, I can't replicate it to file a bug report but I wanted to mention it here.

When I uploaded the image [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/gallery/image/14296 ExtensionIDtooltip] to the [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/gallery/images Media Gallery] to use in my post here, [/forums/contributors/709705?&page=2#post-55788] somehow the information from the previous image I had uploaded the day before, SubmittedCrashReports-Win7 was displayed in the upload dialog. 2. Previewing the revision of https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/forum-response-firefox-crashes/edit/50198#preview shows the image and so does https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/forum-response-firefox-crashes/edit/51671#preview I don't really understand what the issue here is.
  3. The "empty edit" revision tht's pending is irrelevant. The image from the current version of Forum Response - Firefox crashes is still the one from https://support.cdn.mozilla.net/media/uploads/gallery/images/2013-12-07-11-14-35-764187.png (the Dec 7, 2013 image that is now deleted). The pending revision is just an "empty edit" to refresh the article, since the image there is the new one, https://support.cdn.mozilla.net/media/uploads/gallery/images/2013-12-08-06-09-20-764187.png which I just uploaded today with the same name as the deleted one.

  4. Hmmm. The image at https://support.cdn.mozilla.net/media/uploads/gallery/images/2013-12-07-11-14-35-764187.png is still there ... even though Media Gallery page for the Dec 7 upload is gone. Anyway, I deferred the "empty edit" revision since it wasn't needed. I'll post back if I see the "bug" again (where information from a different image is displayed in the upload dialog) and will try to document it better.

  5. Just came across the bug today, when uploading a new image. I made a screenshot of what appeared, which showed an older image I had uploaded on Dec 22 named "displayname". See:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/gallery/image/14504 This one got deleted. too, when I tried uploading a new image. I re-uploaded it here: https://support.mozilla.org/gallery/image/14507

Even though I cancelled out of the upload, the "displayname" image was deleted.

  6. P.S. More information on this bug:

When attempting to upload a new image today, a preview of an older image appeared in the upload prompt with the image title "displayname" and description already filled in.

After canceling this upload, I tried again and got another, smaller "Continue Uploading Media" prompt that just had a link to https://support.cdn.mozilla.net/media/uploads/gallery/images/2013-12-22-14-17-02-8d38cb.png

I also cancelled the second upload prompt which apparently deleted the 2013-12-22-14-17-02-8d38cb.png image from the server.

The older image that was deleted was one I uploaded on Dec. 22, 2013 and added to /forums/contributors/709776?#post-56139. That post now shows The image "displayname" does not exist where I had added the [[Image:displayname]] markup.

  7. Just tried uploading a different image and it happened again, this time deleting the "UploadNewImageBug" image I just created to document the bug. I had to reupload the screenshot to https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/gallery/image/14507

  8. Has anyone else noticed this bug or is it just me? I don't want to file a bug report since it seems to be happening at random when trying to upload a new image (the information from one of my earlier image uploads is shown in the preview).

Next time it happens, I'll try continuing with the upload of the old image, to see if that prevents the old image from being deleted.

  9. Alice can you please provide steps to reproduce? You can use staging, if you don't want to clutter the production site.

That's the problem ... I can't reproduce it whenever I want. I see the bug from time to time when going to https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/gallery/images and clicking "Upload a New Media File. Sometimes I see the bug but usually I don't. I normally use SeaMonkey , in case that makes a difference, both when I see the bug and when I don't.

Instead of seeing an Upload a New Media File" prompt with a "browse" button, I see a "Continue Uploading Media" prompt with a preview of the image, title, and description already filled in, which is for an image I've uploaded in the past. Here's a screenshot:

If I cancel the prompt, the old image is deleted.
