Display Name now used on Discussion Forums! ...and also now in Support Forum

  1. As Bug 673947 was deployed, we are now using our Display Name on the the Discussion Forums! Adjust accordingly! :)

  2. Just a heads-up: It looks like Advanced Search for discussion forum posts by a certain person won't work if using the display name. You have to use the actual username (you have to go to the person's profile page and use the name in parentheses).

For example, a search for posts in this forum since Nov 1 2013 created by "Andrew" comes up empty:

    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/search?q=&author=Andrew&created=2&created_date=11%2F01%2F2013&updated=0&updated_date=&sortby=0&forum=1&a=1&w=4#discussion

If I substitute the username feer56 if the above search, however, I get lots of results, including this thread.

  3. Display names will also be used in the Support Forum soon, since the related bug was fixed and deployed yesterday:

P.S. I changed my display name to match my username some time ago, to avoid problems.

Right.. this has landed already. Unfortunately my display isn't the same as my username so it could get confusing soon ;)

  5. Would it be possible to have the user name in a tooltip to avoid confusion and make it possible to check for issues with an improper user name that would now pass unnoticed?

Currently only the SUMO forum index pages show the display name.

Will this stay so or will the question page also show the display name and not the user name in the future?

  6. They snook in the ability to easily & instantly change display names, this raises all sorts of potential issues.

  7. You get also situations like this where the OP has answered and two different names are shown.
Creator (posted by) shows the user name and last post the display name.

  8. Yes, I was wondering what's going on. The screenshot from the questions list shows both the display name and the username for /user/1019187 Rina (RinaGomez)

    last post by OP

Her support question also shows both names: /questions/980716 firefox is slow or crashes on me lately I have done everything to fix this!

The image "displayname" does not exist.

  9. I would prefer to have this change reverted or at least have the user name shown as default and a possible display name added between parenthesis or vice verse if the display name is considered necessary. At least when the display name is a single word. Most contributors (at least the ones that have been longer present on the forum) are used to see the user name.

Note: There's an upload image bug that deleted my displayname image which used to be at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/gallery/image/14465 but is now gone.

This happened today when I tried to upload a new image. I documented this "image upload bug" here:

Only the display name will be shown. Ricky just deployed the fix for this today:

  13. I would still prefer to see the user name in a tooltip of the display name in case I'm not sure who posted the reply.

  14. cor-el, I think your best bet would be to file a new bug. IMHO you'd have a better chance of an admin or sumo-dev seeing it in a bug report. than here on the forum.

  16. Thanks for filing the bug.
I keep the avatars hidden with code in userContent.css, so that makes it more difficult to notice who posted.

It is the same with the edit toolbar (.editor-tools) that now has a "Insert media..." button that I hadn't noticed.
