have you considered asking Google? This is purely their take on mail and has nothing to do with Thunderbird.
I can reach my e-mail and mail from my web interface is. Thunderbird also can send the mail. Mail is giving the following error when I want to send
and I do not have problems with outlook
Sending of password did not succeed. Mail server pop.gmail.com responded: Username and password not accepted
I can not help you. Gmail offer the service. Thunderbird is an IMAP and POP mail client. it is not a Recent mail client. Gmail offers that service. You have already pointed out it works fine is you use it as a pop client.
I don't care if it works in Outlook, eudora and mac mail. Apparently it does not work in Thunderbird so ask google why not. I read their instructions for this, and I simply can not comprehend the instructions. they are gibberish.
