I am trying to go from Outlook to Tbird but it is taking 27 hours to load my old emails - why?

I have 5500 emails in Outlook. Thunderbird is uploading them but it is taking over 27 hours and it is only partially done. The progress bar shows it is about 50% done. The dialog in the bottom left corner changes occasionally - right now it says "downloading 20 of 5502"

That sounds like it is downloading mail from the mail server, not importing anything from outlook.

A very real possibility is your anti virus is slowing things down.
