Memory hogging that slows computer to a crawl.

This started happening after a few updates back, but now Thunderbird routinely jumps to 170k memory and slows my computer to a grind. I have to quit Thunderbird to keep using other apps (like MS Word) without a slowdown.

I'd really be surprised if Thunderbird would run with 170k memory at all. If you're talking about 170 MB memory, that still isn't unusual at all. You haven't mentioned how much memory your computer has, but if memory really is the problem, then I guess it's about time for an upgrade.
