Firefox automatically updates to latest versions on my pc. How do I STOP it upgrading to Version 4? The Version 4 model is totally unsuitable for my pc, uses too much RAM and is much less user friendly for older people like myself.

You can configure your update options so that Firefox asks you what to do, for details see the "Configuring update options" section of https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Updating+Firefox
