I'm losing my mind over this and I possibly have messed up big time. I tried following all the advice I found online setting the client to not delete my messages and repairing folders but it's still gone. I had to write an awkward message to corporate to resend me the last email I received so that's the only thing in "sent" but that's about it. When I first booted up the cliet for a brief moment I saw my messages with one unread when it all dissapeared in a moment. It all happened so fast but I am sure I haven't clicked anything, it kept asking me to compact the folder however so I did that and I fear that all my mails are irrepairably gone.

I fear that all my mails are irrepairably gone.

You're almost certainly right with that. Just in case see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Disappearing_mail

If you took the time to create a backup of your Thunderbird profile prior to the incident you can easily restore the lost messages.

The most likely scenario is that anti-virus software did corrupt your mail file(s), so your messages were already gone. The compact action then just cleaned up the mess.

It is therefore recommended to exclude the Thunderbird profile folder from being scanned by anti-virus software. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Thunderbird
