Thunderbird lagging when I copy & paste

more options

hello all, I hope you can help with this. I am on a mac, OS High Sierra, 10.13.2 using Thunderbird 52.5.2. A few days ago Thunderbird started lagging. It's especially noticeable when I copy and paste any text - there is a /long/ lag with a spinning wheel.

So far I have:

- restarted - deleted downloads - emptied trash - ran disk utility - ran disk utility from boot disk - updated OS - checked Activity Monitor - no unfamiliar apps running - disabled all Thunderbird extensions - disabled Thunderbird shockwave Flash

Help please! thanks, Sandy

I'm afraid not. Thanks, though.

There is another thing that started with the trouble. When I open up Thunderbird I get a blank screen (I uploaded a screenshot), followed by a brief flash of black around the outside of the application. The flash of black happens too fast to get a shot of.

thanks, Sandy

Does it happen only in full screen?

Or dual monitor?

Or 4k screen?

Wayne, thanks for sticking with this. I really appreciate your help!

I am on a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014), just the one screen. The problem comes up whether Thunderbird fills the window or is shrunk down.
