Both in Firefox & in Tor browser, when I bookmark a page, the Name field receives the http:// address, which isn't usually very descriptive, rather than the page title, which usually is & which FF used to do. This behaviour changed during some update & I'd really like to find out how to change it back! I haven't tried Safe Mode for this, as, as usual, I've got a jillion pages open.

Thanks for replying so fast Dumb ass me. Firefox vanilla saves bookmarks with Name as the page title. Tor browser is the one that saves bookmark names as the web address, but only if I drag the address bar icon into the Bookmarks bar. I prefer doing that so bookmarks are where I want them.

I just discovered that dragging the tab into Bookmarks makes the Name the page title, dragging the address makes the name the address.

Now I know. Cheers, thanks again.

On the page you want to bookmark, do a right-click in an empty area of the page. At the top of the menu, press the Star. Hot key; <Control> (Mac=<Command>) D.

Or, Press the bookmarks Star on the toolbar.

This will place a bookmark in the Unsorted Bookmarks Folder. To edit or move that bookmark, press the Star again.

A window will come up with the name of the page and its web address. You can edit these entries.

Next, select what bookmarks folder you want this bookmark in. If you do not see that folder, go to the far right of the Folder line, and press the down arrow. You can also create a new folder.

Usually the name of the bookmark is the text content of the <title> tag set in the HTML code of the page.

So it should match what is on the tab (and if you show the traditional Title Bar, what appears there).

For example, if you bookmark this page, the name should be:
