Thunderbird lag / freezes up periodically

more options

Hi-

During using Thunderbird i get a lag / small 2 second freeze as I touch the mouse and start using Thunderbird, or it will occur every 30 seconds or so of using and i'll get the 1-2 second freeze but with never a crash, it always unfreezes and I can resume using.

Long time Thunderbird user and I keep all of my Emails, my sent folder has a lot of mail in and I have a lot of archived folders, could I be keeping too much old mail? I do need it for reference purpose but could this causing me problem?

Any help would be awesome!

I guess you'll have to experiment with this. There's an article here you may find helpful: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Limits_%28Thunderbird%29 You may want to consider also well-known antivirus problems, which can cause 'hiccups' in the operation of Thunderbird if the files are being scanned: https://wiki.mozilla.org/Thunderbird:Testing:Antivirus_Related_Performance_Issues
