I go to pages each day and hope the computer (windows 7) would remember my password as it always did when I had an old computer. I have a Vista laptop and it remembers my password every time. Maybe my settings in "options" are not set right?

Websites remembering you and automatically log you on is stored in a cookie.

Create an allow cookie exception (Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: Exceptions) to keep such a cookie, especially for secure websites and if cookies expire when Firefox is closed.

In case you are using "Clear history when Firefox closes":

  • do not clear the Cookies
  • do not clear the Site Preferences

Note that clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, and passwords.

Clearing cookies will remove all specified (selected) cookies including cookies with an allow exception that you would like to keep.

Are you talking about your laptop, Windows 7, or Firefox. If it is Firefox, are you talking about web site passwords, or the Firefox master password? Open Firefox options and select Security. You can set the master password from here. You can also tell Firefox to remember the web site passwords. There are several Firefox add-ons that you can use at Firefox add-ons web site .

Do you mean names and passwords in the Password Manager or do you mean that you are no longer logged on to (remembered by) websites after closing and restarting Firefox?

There is a difference between remembering the name and password in the Password Manager and a "remember me" check box on a web page to log you in automatically.
The latter usually involves the creation of a special "remember me" cookie that is stored on your computer and that is send to the server.
If that "remember me" cookie is removed or gets corrupted or is not send to the server then the server won't remember you anymore and you need to sign in once again.

I meant Firefox on my desktop not the master password. I'm the only one using my computer. For instance on my Firefox laptop this one keeps the password for web sites I go each day, I try to do the same on my desktop but ea.time I go to Wheel of Fortune to give an example I have to write my password. I thought being a new windows 7 on my desktop (Firefox) would be easier with the settings. Sorry, but this is confusing for me. Thanks for your time.
