Address bar uses "http://www.isearch-for.com" as my search engine instead of Google.

When I type keywords into my address bar (where the URL shows) instead of searching via Google or one of my other favorite search engines, it uses a site "http://www.isearch-for.com" which purports to be Google, even ripping off their signature colored logo. I want to remove this probably piece of malware.

When you enter a search term in the Firefox location bar and press Enter, Firefox will per default do a "I'm feeling lucky" Google search and redirect you to the first result that matches your search term. This behaviour can be changed by a number of add-ons. If you'd like to restore the previous default behaviour, please follow these steps:

  1. Enter about:config in the Firefox location bar and press Enter.
  2. You should see a warning that making changes to the Firefox configuration can be potentially harmful to Firefox's integrity. Click the I'll be careful, I promise button to continue.
  3. In the Search box at the top, enter keyword as the keyword.URL. You should see a few remaining items, one of these is keyword.URL. It should be bold.
  4. Right-click on the keyword.URL setting and select Reset from the dropdown menu.

Now you're done. Please report back if this fixes your problem. Thanks in advance!

Thank you, this did work. So, the isearch-for.com is not something that was installed or changed via malware? I thought it might be because I had several warnings about blocked malicious URLs from my security software this week. The change in search engines was new in the last few days and I haven't added any add-ons lately. I appreciate the help - I get the feeling I am asking a common question, but I wanted to be sure.

Guess what? Today, the search is back to using the isearch-for.com. Guess I will continue checking for malware or other possibilities.
