I try to download firefox 2 but it just goes back to 5.0 and can't install google toolbar

I have windows XP. I evidently have firefox 5.0 but then can't install the google toolbar, which I want. So I downloaded firefox 2 because it said that the google toolbar wouldn't work on firefox 5. I downloaded firefox 2 a number of times and still get the message "google toolbar won't run with firefox 5.0 I don't know how to switch from firefox 5.0 to firefox 2.
