I use ExpressVPN and haven't had any severe issues using this along with Firefox. Somewhat recently, I can't use the browser at all while connected to my VPN. I tried switching locations and even using my cellular data instead of wifi, but I have the same issue. All other apps work with my VPN.

Did you verify with ExVPN that setup proxy in the browser was setup correctly to connect from ExVPN. That you should check with ExVPN support on this.
