yesterday my gmail account was compromised someone, not me, changed the password. I have recovered gmail but now Thunderbird is inaccessible. What to do?

I suggest deleting the password in Gmail account, and reactivating it. You can remove at settings>privacy&security. Click saved passwords, then show passwords, then highlight both rows for the account, rightclick and delete.
