Mail Tool bar: My global searchbox has disappeared and any attempt to bring it back -- even by reset -- fails. On customizing the tool bar I observe two odd boxes but both vanish when closing the edit palette window. What have I done wrong? Any ideas to get it back is very appreciated.

Check this setting:

Menu app icon > Options/Preferences > General Scroll to bottom - under 'Indexing' section select checkbox 'Enable Global search and Indexer'

It should then appear.
