How to reset my new tab page back to most used pages

more options

Somehow Foxfire has set a different page to open on new tabs - I dont like it and I want the "most common used pages" to open again on new tabs.

I have seen in older forms questions with this issue to open In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful. (3) Double-click the browser.newtab.url preference and enter your preferred page: Page thumbnails (default) => about:newtab

My problem is when I try and follow this I DO NOT have "browser.newtab.url" in my search so this is useless to me

What does the page look like?

Activity Stream. Firefox 57 will have new design for the new tab page starting with Top Sites, and it appears that some users are getting it early. It's called the Activity Stream. If this is the issue, please try the following:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful or accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste newt and pause while the list is filtered

(3) If the browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.enabled preference is bolded and "modified" or "user set" to true, double-click it to restore the default value of false

Other Page. Usually the only other reason you would have a different new tab page is an extension replacing it. You can view, disable, and often remove unwanted or unknown extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a (Mac: Command+Shift+a)
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
  • type or paste about:addons in the address bar and press Enter/Return

In the left column of the Add-ons page, click Extensions. Then cast a critical eye over the list on the right side. Any extensions that Firefox installs on its own are hidden from this page, so everything listed here is your choice (and your responsibility) to manage. Anything you do not remember installing or which might affect the new tab? If in doubt, disable.

Sometimes a link will appear above a disabled extension to restart Firefox before the change takes effect. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.

Any improvement?
