Future of NPAPI plugins

Hello,

We currently have a web app using a java applet. Searching on the web i found out several webs saying that NPAPI plugins (suchs as java and flash) will be deprecated.

We are currently trying to define a new road map for our app to try to bypass the applet (hard to do it, since the we need to access the computer hardware).

Is this ever going to happen?

Where can I find mroe info about this topic?
