Thunderbird to Gmail, Date of messages changed

Moving mail from Outlook to Gmail, via Thunderbird. First, mail was imported into Thunderbird, everything looks good. Then uploaded to Gmail account. Exported mail, while showing correct date in Thunderbird, in Gmail the date of the message is the date that the import was done. Need to be able to change/reset this behavior.
