I tried to move some items from inbox to a new folder, it seemed to move but when that folder was opened, it was not there and not in inbox either.

try to move or copy from any folder to any folder....don't work, moved them earlier to a new folder from inbox, they disappeared. had to access server website to retrieve. now I don't want to bother them in fear of loosing them permanently.

right click both folder and select properties and then the repair button. Mail is displayed from an index file and this rebuilds the index. It does not actually affect your mail.
