It does show that little corrupted picture icon. Using windows XP. Pictures will display outside of Thunderbird.

GO TO TOOLS --- OPTIONS -- ADVANCE --- GENERAL --- CONFIG EDITOR

  • Search for mailnews.message_display.disable_remote_image and Change it to FALSE
