I forgot to take screen dumps to document. afr.php was described as a text file and I thought I'd have a look at it. However, firefox warned that it was a script, so I aborted the download. A hacker attack??

Probably. I can't say how or why that happened, but it's what I guess:

A malware tried to open a PHP script on your local system, and it seems, you did not have a WebServer + PHP setup on your system, so the script didn't execute, instead, Firefox assumed it's a downloadable file and asked if you want to download it.
