Firefox crashes, turns off PC, a Dell desktop. It is not heat related because it sometimes does it within a few minutes of starting PC. It does not happen with Explorer, only Firefox. I much prefer Firefox but have stopped using it because it shuts PC off randomly when surfing the net. It does not seem to be related to any specific sites. I go to only safe sites (as far as I know)

I have Windows 7 Professional.

I used Vipre security software.

I tried some of the things listed in your suggestions but I don't understand them all.

I hope you can help.

thank you.

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

You need close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.

Try to set the Flash plug to click-to-play by setting the permissions for Flash to "Ask To Activate" in "Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Plugins". That way you can activate the Flash plugin when you need it via the Lego block icon on the location bar.
