Seems like forever, when I click on "Move To" the program provided a drop down list from which I could select the target location for my move.

Lately, however, there's been my previous move locations and a 'fill in' box.

I want to go back to the old way - have I changed something to get this new system?

Thunderbird (38.2.0, then 38.3.0) hangs/freezes often, up to several minutes long, windows 10 64bit, recent, clean install. safe mode

I am on a brand new fresh install of Windows 10 Home (10.0.10240 Build 10240). New machine only a few weeks old with SSD system drive. Intel Core i5-6600K @ 3.5GHz. BIOS AMI F2, 2/72/2025.

Everything else runs fine. No other identifiable problems on this clean new install and machine.

I am on the release update channel for Thunderbird. Version 38.2.0, just upgraded to a new version while getting this thing posted. No relief from the upgrade, which I can't see at the moment because Thunderbird is hanging as I write. It just came back, I clicked the hamburger to see what version, and it started hanging again before I could get the answer. OK, it came back again. 38.3.0.

I do not have any product from Norton, Symantec, nor McAfee. I have MalwareBytes Antimalware Premium and Panda Free Antivirus. The problems with Thunderbird started before I installed Panda Free Antivirus.

Freezes ('not responding') / hangs are frequent and generally several minutes in duration. I may only get a few seconds of activity before the next freeze.

I added Thunderbird to the windows firewall approved programs list. No help. I added Thunderbird to the exclusion lists for malwarebytes and panda. No change.

I work remotely so email is my lifeline. I have installed another email client and will soon uninstall Thunderbird. I've used Thunderbird for some years now - at least a decade, probably more. So I am not new to this.

Current add-ons - .vcs support 0.6.4; configdate 0.75; lightning 4.0.2.1; lookout 1.2.13; smile fixer 1.4.1; Sticky Password Autofill Engine 8.0.4.34.

Trying safe mode right now. It has run for about 3 minutes straight from startup time, which is pretty good compared with recent difficulties. I'll post an update in a bit.

Update: went maybe 10 minutes without trouble in safe mode. So I went back into normal mode and disabled several of my add-ons - .vcs support 0.6.4, configdate 0.7.5, lookout 1.2.13, and smiley fixer 1.4.1. After a few minutes it has hung/frozen again, so it must be sticky password autofill engine 8.0.4.34 or Lightning 4.0.2.1, I guess.

Update 2: disabled sticky password autofill engine. Thunderbird still hanging. Must be lightning. Will disable and restart.

Update 3: disabled lightning. It went a good long time - perhaps 15 minutes - but is finally hanging/frozen. I guess I'll go back to safe mode, which seems to be quite similar to what I've done already (disabling all add-ons). Should have the same result as manually disabling all the add-ons, but maybe not!

Update 4: operated for some time in safe mode, but it is hanging / frozen / unresponsive again. I'm open to suggestion. Opera Mail, or just about anything else, is looking pretty good.

Firefox is my browser and should be able to syn my different websites (Google, Microsoft, etc.) on my laptop computer...just like Firefox has done in the past. As you may know by opening my account. I am able to see all my Google emails on my cell phone, but not on my laptop computer. Why?

Also, as Firefox knows, I have a new Google email address: ...and a new password: (...Firefox uses it for my cell phone and I get all my Google emails on it. My question is: Why don't I?

In fact, when I click on my Google email account on my laptop computer, I get this message from Firefox down in the right hand corner, that you are not able to connect to my Google emails on my laptop computer...but I can on my cell phone. WHAT'S UP DOC?!?

I am at my wits end trying to figure this dichotomy out? I am seriously thinking about changing my Firefox browser to a different browser after all my years with Mozilla. HELP! Your faithful client. Dr. Richard C. Muzik

Thunderbird 38.7.1

Two email accounts configured:

GoDaddy via IMAP Outlook360 via IMAP

Both accounts have been in use with Thunderbird for 3+ years. Last week, the GoDaddy via IMAP account will only download message when I restart Thunderbird. "Get Messages" does not download new messages,

I can send messages without issue from both accounts.

I do not receive any error messages - I just don't get new messages for that one account unless I shut down Thunderbird and restart. Then it always downloads the messages correctly - but won't download any more that come in.

Any suggestions are much appreciated...

New problem downloading files (Win10-64bit, Thunderbit 32-bit, Firefox 64-bit)

Starting within the last 2 weeks, I am having problems with the system hanging up when I try to download a file. It doesn't happen when I've first rebooted the computer, but after I've been using it for an hour or two. It also doesn't hang the entire computer (at least not at first); but just Firefox, Windows Explorer, and (if the download link was there) Thunderbird.

I'm using:

  Win10 Pro(x64) v1909 (build 18363.1016)
  Firefox v80.0.1 (64-bit)
  Thunderbird v68.12.0 (32-bit)

On a Dell Optiplex 7010 factory-refurb desktop pc with:

3.40 gigahertz Intel Core i5-3570 processor
  16gb ram

The problem starts at the point where I'm supposed to tell the system where to put the file I'm downloading. The system defaults to "This PC", and usually to "Downloads". If it's going to hang, it does so on my next mouse-click, trying to go to the proper directory.

When the glitch happens, closing Firefox (if I can) will not solve it. When I try to open it again, it says Firefox is already running, even though it doesn't appear to be. Sometimes (but not always) I can open the Task Manager. The one time I succeded in doing so, I must have started either that download or a previous download from a Thunderbird email. Several Firefox processes were running. I tried to shut them all down, but one would not respond. Looking thru the other tabs, I found one Firefox.exe instance in the Details tab, and tried (but failed) to shut that down. So I started closing whatever other applications I had open, on the way to rebooting the system. But when I closed Thunderbird, the Firefox process & "Detail" instance both closed, and the glitch disappeared.

However, I don't think it can always be blamed on Thunderbird, because I think the glitch has happened at other times when Thunderbird was not open. All I really know is that both Firefox and Windows have updated on my pc (and on my Win7 laptop) within the last two weeks, and that's when the problem started.

To me it appears that this is an update-induced bug. I hope that this note helps someone to find that bug and kill it.

Thanks.

I am using Thunderbird 68.4.2. I tried changing password settings on Thunderbird and ATT/Yahoo because I noticed returned emails in my spam folder on ATT. Emails I never sent, so I thought I might have been hacked. Thunderbird stopped sending or receiving emails. I went and reset all passwords. I still get my emails on Yahoo, but Thunderbird is not sending or receiving. when sending, I get "Login to server outbound.att.net with username garrysch@swbell.net failed." Again, I have checked my passwords and server settings. They are matching. Would appreciate any help.

Thunderbird - Connecting to Outgoing server (SMTP) smtp.gmail.com failed

Hello all,

I have been experiencing problems for the last few days with connecting to my imap Gmail accounts in Thunderbird.

When I check messages or send I get error popups along the lines of:

Sending of the message failed. The message could not be sent because connecting to Outgoing server (SMTP) smtp.gmail.com failed. The server may be unavailable or is refusing SMTP connections. Please verify that your Outgoing server (SMTP) settings are correct and try again.

Cannot connect - connection to imap.gmail.com refused

I have worked through these suggestions:

https://support.google.com/mail/answer/7126229?hl=en

But I am still getting the pop ups. Eventually the emails do check or send if I click check/send enough times (usually 4 or 5 attempts), but this is tedious in the extreme! I have read the suggestions in the Mozilla forums too which reflect those on the link above.

I am using 2 factor authentication.

I have set up app passwords for my gmail accounts for Thunderbird. I have also revoked them and regenerated multiple times.

I have also done the recaptcha here:

https://accounts.google.com/b/0/DisplayUnlockCaptcha

I have also increased the timeout as per this suggestion:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1031538

I have set authentication method to OAuth2 also.

I have set message check to be 15 minutes instead of the 10 that it defaulted to.

I have removed and readded passwords within Thunderbird Security\Password Options.

None of these have prevented these annoying pop up messages.

I am using latest version of Windows 10 and latest version of Thunderbird.

Here are my settings - and as far as I can see they are all present and correct.

Please can anyone advise what is happening here or how to fix? It's driving me mental! I have Yahoo imap set up also and that doesn't seem to be giving me as much trouble which implies there is something weird happening with gmail somehow....

Many thanks for your help.
