Hotmail accounts password issues

First, thank you for your help. Next, up until 2 days ago, my thunderbird worked great for my multiple accounts. Than all of my accounts at once said it could not login to the server with the userid/password. I then did the folllowing.

1). Manually logged in through website for hotmail for all accounts and my userid/passwords are right. 2). I updated the thunderbird program. Did not help. 3). Removed accounts manually and added them back into thunderbird. Still had problems. 4). Went out to the microsoft account management and switched 2 step process login and turned that off. Did not solve the problem. 5). Read online and saw that people change the authentication method to: OEAUTH2. I put in the password when the window popped up to login to my account, but if I close down the program and open it later, it pops up this box to login again. Switched it back to normal password. 6). Verified passwords are correct in Password manager.

Now what is interesting is if I have it as normal password, sometimes when I click "retry" for the password, it magically works and pulls in my emails. I thought maybe it was related to my internet connection, so I tried it on 3 different internet connections and I get the same results.

My setup is as follows:

server: outlook.office365.com Port: 993 Connection Security: SSL/TLS Server Type IMAP server


It is frustrating because like I said sometimes I click retry and it works for that specific account.

The ability to change font size is disabled. I lost my User profile on my PC, and I am starting from scratch with all settings. My custom folders are still there, but I have had to recreate message filter rules, and I can't get the font large enough to read.

Note: When I click on the image I provide below, it makes it look like my font size is huge. It is not.

Last night I used my Computer and checked for New Emails, before Powering Down. This morning I Powered Up and went to see if an Email I am waiting for has arrived - but Thunderbird is treating me like a Brand New User and asking me to Create Passwords etc. When I finally get to something that looks a TINY BIT like my normal screen, ALL of my Messages and Folders have DISAPPEARED. The last time I used THUNDERBIRD (about 9 hours ago) I just looked for New Messages, and didn't try to make Any Changes, Updates, Archives, Migrations or Imports. Why is Thunderbird treating me like a Brand New User and asking me to Set Up an Account ? How do I retrieve my Emails (both Sent and Received).

It always seems to be when TB has been out of focus and I call it into focus. The entire GUI dialog box is white.

I've been using TB for years and years but this is the end. It was originally a nice alternative to Outlook Express with a small footprint but now it's decided that half my client list is spam. I have literally lost business because emails keep going into spam despite me marking them over and over and over as "not junk".

Hello Smarter People:

I am running TB 115.9.0 on macOS 12.7.1 (Monterey). This is the last OS release that my hardware will support.

I have spent a lifetime in software, so I will do my best to present the problem cogently. Perhaps it will save you some time.

I am having real problems understanding and deploying filters. I have four email accounts, which makes it a bit more complex.

I cannot detect whether filters are to be applied to EACH INBOX of my four email accounts, or if filters are GLOBAL to any given profile.

I THINK from my observations that both are true. You may define filters for individual email accounts, but if you to to Tools/Message Filters, all defined filters are shown.

No matter what I try, my filters don't achieve the desired result of automatically filtering mails into separate sub-folders. I have to drag each email manually, which can be a big job sometimes. Filters used to work, and I USED to think I understood them.

So what is the execution flow? Does mail first flow to the inbox of each individual email account and is filtered THERE, or is it all automatically sent to the Inbox on Local Folders and is filtered THERE?

I highlighted an individual email account, and went to Tools/Message Filters, and the filters there can be different from other filters that I have defined.

For example, in each of four email accounts, I may define two or more filters, BUT the last one in the order is called "Match All" which is defined to move ALL mail in that account to the Inbox on Local Folders. All incoming mail does indeed end up in the Inbox, but no filtering appears to be done.

Then I figured that filters must be global to a Profile, and defined my filters to Local Folders. Again, no joy.

I have read all the web pages having to do with filters and I THINK I'm defining them properly (I could hardly get them wrong - as clear as the instructions are). But there is no discussion of the SCOPE of filters.

I'm both confused and stuck, folks. I would appreciate some help from smarter people.

I have used Thunderbird for years. I have never had any issues until now. We do love the product. The last update messed up my incoming on one of the accounts. The account is: tony@action-av.com, under this account it shows I have messages as they come in they populate the messages but I cannot see them to read them at all. I can only see old messages. Please only email me with help on this address that still works that is tony@actionkravmaga.com it work perfectly. tony@action-av.com does not work whatsoever. I can't organize the incoming in by date or by attachments or by if it was read or not read. It shows I have 200 emails but I can't open them because they don't exist within the window. They only exist by the account name of unread messages. Within the window I cannot find the incoming messages whatsoever but it does change the number by the account of incoming messages. This all happened after the last update I don't know if it was corrupted in the process of receiving it and it's just not working. I looked at the area to update it to the old one or even doing the new update too. But it kept on saying that it's updated and I cannot do this. It will not allow me to update whatsoever it says my update is up to date. I was looking at possibly putting the old update back in but I tried to do that and it did not work. I am running Thunderbird 115.5.0 (64-bit) on Ubuntu 22.04.

I have two accounts with email MS - one with Hotmail, and the other with Outlook.

Both continue to receive emails without issue.

Recently, neither can send emails - having been able to send emails for years.

They had different SMTP servers, so I checked to see if I was using the correct server, and both appear as being correct.

I tried adding one account (again) to ensure TB would select the correct server, ... and it still cannot send emails, but still receives emails.

I have tried both with oAuth for the password, but that has stopped working.

I can find nothing online, and feel like I have exhausted the internet for solutions, so if anyone can help, it would be most appreciated, as I am sure others will be as frustrated.

I'm having a lot of trouble setting up a functioning second e-mail account in Thunderbird. I've tried numerous times and it either doesn't show up or if it does, it won't receive or send. I wonder if part of the problem is the settings provided by my ISP. Thunderbird fills them in automatically, but they're not the ones my ISP wants. Both the server name and the ports are incorrect. I try to change them manually but then the 'continue' button is greyed out and I'm stuck. Using the ones Thunderbird wants doesn't work, I can't send or receive. I need it to be a POP3 account, my ISP gives us very limited server space.

When I set up my initial e-mail account the automatic settings were correct to what my ISP wanted, so there wasn't a problem. Any help would be appreciated.

I have lost many of the emails stored in local folders. I know they were there about 6 months ago, but now they are not. Although I will probably never want to read most of them, there are some which I need. I will be ditching Thunderbird if I can't get a solution - I am as certain as I can be, that I have not done anything to cause this, and am appalled that it could happen. It seems that emails from the last 2 or 3 years are there (although I am not convinced there is a consistent date. What on earth has happened??
