I have, very reluctantly, had to stop using Windows Live Mail, because gmail will no longer support it. It was a great email program and it did everything I needed. Thunderbird would seem to be the nearest thing I can find to replace Live Mail - but there seems to be some quite staggering basic functions that are missing from it. Maybe I'm alone in wanting to include a picture or two in my emails..? - not as attachments, but as part of 'the visual letter', within the text? Live Mail must be 20 years old at least - but in Live Mail I could insert an image; drag the corners to resize it; add a box rule if I wanted to; and send it on it's way. In 21stC Thunderbird I can, with many a dialogue box, insert an image... but even when I've worked out how to 'resize it', it doesn't actually reduce the file size of the image sent..! So a 7MB image, when 'resized' to something less than 1MB... still actually gets transmitted as a 7MB image - and takes forever! So my question is. How come an ancient, now almost defunct program like Live Mail, is twenty times more agile and user-friendly than 'up-to-date' Thunderbird? And before anyone mentions 'add-ons' - Live Mail did all of this straight out of the box! No 'add-on' searching or anything else required. But maybe including a picture or two in an email is a fairly revolutionary concept? With thanks for your thoughts.

My friend has been using Thunderbird for a long time. Recently I installed her new PC and restored her account profile using the profile folder on her old PC. So far so good. The problem is that her mails are not organized in folders on the mail server but she has a whole collection of folders in her Thunderbird mail client and is concerned about loosing her mails if the new PC (or the disk) would crash at some point. Of course she could just re-install Thunderbird after fixing the crash problem and sync with the mail server, but then the folder structure would be lost. First I considered using a back-up program to keep a back-up of her Thunderbird profile using cloud storage. My second thought (should have been my first thought...) is that she already has a back-up, namely the mail server. The ISP does a better job than any local back-up program to keep her mails safe. Only the missing folder structure remains a concern. So here is the question: if I change the setting to sync all folders with the mail server, what will happen: 1 - the folders in Thunderbird will disappear (only the folders, not the mails) because there are no folders on the mail server 2 - the folder structure from Thunderbird will be mirrorred on the ISP's mail server. Which one is it?

I currently receive all messages sent to me including those from Comcast but I can't send messages to any email address. When I logon i get the message: Enter Credentials for my email address on imap,comcast.net. I read the document: Switch from POP to IMAP account > Create the IMAP account. I never saw the window shown on page 3 of the document. The other day I got a message that the IMAP account was already created. I then edited the my SMTP account.

Unified Folders in Thunderbird 115 for mac no longer works. Useless! Computer Tech specialist here and have been using Thunderbird for ages. With this latest version, the inbox, sent, etc etc etc no longer display as unified. The Unified Folders category when ON shows as its own item in the left column with a single empty inbox! Scrolling up and down to each account for each subfolder is a waste of time!!! Hope you fix this ASAP!!!!! Unified folders works fine in 10.12.13 but I cannot got back to that due to your system.

I am getting desperate as the harder I try to sort this out the bigger mess I get in.

I think after about 20 years I may have to stop using Thunderbird but I do not know what other Email client to replace it with as they all seem to be confusing.

The archiving problem particularly relates to gmails but I cannot understand the gmail webmail system at all - it seems to sort emails into categories I do not understand or need or want to use.

I cannot send a screen shot easily due to the confidential nature of emails

Hello! I accidentally hit 'K' with a thread selected, and so got a message at the bottom of the screen saying that replies to the thread will not be shown. This is the same situation as in the now-archived question [[Accidentally pressed "K" on an email - can no longer find it|https://support.mozilla.org/bm/questions/1380096]].

I'm now writing because I *was* able to select the option to display ignored threads described in the reply to the question above – so that I can, at least, now see the thread that I accidentally ignored without meaning to. But I'd like to actually fix the problem and un-ignore it.

I've read the support article on Ignoring Threads, but what that article describes – namely applying 'Ignore' to the same thread so that it toggles off to unignore the thread – isn't working. I also tried quitting Thunderbird entirely after doing that and then reopening it, but I can still only see the thread if 'view' is set to still display ignored threads; when I remove that view instruction, the thread disappears again.

Does anyone know if there's something else I should try? Or is this maybe a bug in Thunderbird that needs to be fixed? Thanks so much in advance!

I'd like to suppress displaying message Subject in the folder contents pane. (I'm in vertical view and would like the message contents pane to be wider. To accomplish that I'm willing to sacrifice listing the Subject in the folder contents pane. Tbird doesn't list that as a column I can select or deselect. Any ideas?

The real goal is to make the folder contents pane narrower. But it seems to not allow me to make it any narower than it is. A9(I can widen it, but that doesn't help. Is there any any to change the minimum width Thunderbird has set for that pane?

The spell checker is constantly using English (USA) and not English (UK). No matter what I set it to it reverts. I suspect every time there is an update it does this and it is extremely annoying for anyone living this side of the pond (In the UK).

PLEASE can we have English (UK) by default. I notice when you add it to the list of languages in settings the USA version cannot be deleted.

Struggling with TB constantly "downloading" x 10s of thousands of 10s of thousands of emails (all of which are downloaded), and the programme grinding to a halt. Have set the inboxes to a retention policy of 2500 total. So shouldn't even be trying to DL more than that. Seems to mainly manifest when I compose an email (exactly the time that the sluggishness is a problem). Have done the usual compacting/deleting * files.

This is getting to be a real issue now. I wonder if there's any paid support channels that can deal with this?

Our Thunderbird is set up with 2 email accounts - Gmail & Cox cable. Actually 3 as my wife also uses TB for her Cox emails. Cox is moving over to Yahoo. Not a fan of Yahoo. Eventually I will either set up another Gmail account (cox was for subscriptions or when a business needs an email address) and my has a Gmail already, but she does not use TB for that as for her Cox is her main email.

So can I delete our Cox emails thru Cox web email site without losing our emails currently in TB? And will that mess things up as TB sends and receives email from cox cable?

Any tips and suggestions much appreciated.

I deleted a duplicate email but left the original in Thunderbird. The next time I downloaded emails from the server, the email that was a duplicate on Thunderbird was deleted from the server. Why?

I have Thunderbird setup to leave the emails on the server until I delete them. However, I only deleted a duplicate of an email. Should this have happened? If so, how can I avoid it if I want to clean up duplicate emails on Thunderbird? My mail server is a POP server, if that's important. And I'm using the Remove Duplicates addon

In version 102.10.1 I can change the font size of the various Thunderbird panes independently. I've used the layout.css.devPixelsPerPx variable in the Config Editor to get the menu, folder index, headings, and other fixed parts of the UI to a reasonable size, but the message pane, reply quote, and other parts of the displayed text are way too large. I've tried to use the font size controls in Settings to adjust them, but with little luck.

So, what I would like to see is a concise table showing each font size parameter and exactly which panes and text it applies to. Or, I would like to see written instructions for making the font size the same for all text appearing in Thunderbird, anywhere in Thunderbird.

Or any other answer that is equivalent to these to help me achieve the same font size throughout Thunderbird.

Note: while I can see that some text is too large, I have not verified that a recipient would see text that is too large, since I'm not certain how to test for this, or how to text for both plain text and formatted text. I prefer to send plain text and receive formatted text, if that is relevant.

I have 3 email addresses (2 are gmail addresses) that I have used in Thunderbird for years. My current version is 91.10.0. As of today, I cannot receive or send any new gmail emails through Thunderbird. I don't believe the "automatic update" converted my authentication method to OAuth2.0 because all three of my accounts still said "normal password". As suggested on your website I have tried to change the OAuth but when I go to Passwords I do NOT see "oauth://accounts.googlecom (https://mail.googlecom/)". I tried to delete the passwords and restarted Thunderbird several times but without success.

I get error messages "unable to authenticate to outgoing server. Please check the password." I have changed the password but again no success.

I have checked that cookies are turned on for all sites.

Do you have any ideas how I can correct the situation so I can receive and send emails again?
