My email will not go out. I have followed all of the support articles I can find. I need to reach someone who can help, not another article that does not apply. Most of the time there is not even a "tools" selection , but when I found it it said to verify my outgoing settings. How the heck would I know if they are right or wrong? I have changed nothing and the settings look like they always have but if they are changed I would not know. How would I?

I am using Owl to access my Outlook.com E-Mail account. I have no local folders. I am unable to delete any folders I create under my XXXXX.outlook.com. In the lower left of the screen I get the following message "trachFolder is not defined". Yes, the spelling is correct. TRACH.

Any ideas

For weeks, I have been searching everywhere for a definitive method for transferring my Thunderbird 91.8.1 profile to a new PC. There are lots of posts mainly covering windows applications and older versions of Thunderbird. One reoccurring problem seems to be that some installations have 2 profiles. Some have a profile with just a xxxxxxxx.default profile and others have a xxxxxxxx.default-release and a xxxxxxxx.default profile. It would appear that if you have the 2 profiles then the .default-release would be the one you would use for transferring to a new PC. I was wondering if some one could lead me to a current definitive procedure, for transferring a Linux based Thunderbird 91.8.1 profile, from one PC to new Linux PC . What to do if you have the 2 profiles? Can you just delete the yyyyyyyy.default profile?

Perhaps some one could comment on the following procedure that I have cobbled together from the myriad of posts that I have read.

THIS IS MY VERSION (UNPROVEN) Transfer Thunderbird (91.8.1) profile to new PC [v_4]

On your SOURCE computer [Linux Mint Cinnamon 20.3]

       1. Connect a device for data transfer, either a USB flash drive, or a USB SSD/HDD drive.
       2. Open the Home directory and click the “View tab” then check the box “Show Hidden Files”.

       3. You should find a directory called .thunderbird.
       4. Open .thunderbird and look for the folder, xxxxxxxx.default-release. Note; the x represents a string of 8 random alpha/numerical text.
       5. Right-click on the xxxxxxxx.default-release folder and select Copy.
       6. Paste a copy of xxxxxxxx.default-release to your transfer device. Remove it safely from the source computer when done.
       7. Uncheck the “Show Hidden Files” tab that you checked in step 2.

Note: a) These steps can also be used to create a backup of your Thunderbird profile folder.

         b) In step 4, you may not find a default-release folder. You may see a xxxxxxxx.default or
both. Choose the one that is active.

On your DESTINATION computer [Linux Mint Cinnamon 20.3]

       1. Open thunderbird and then close it. A new profile will be created yyyyyyyy.default-release, or .yyyyyyyy.default.
       2. Locate and open the backed-up profile folder, xxxxxxxx.default-release.
       3. Select all of the folder contents and choose Copy.
       4. Locate and open the new profile folder, yyyyyyyy.default-release.
       5. Paste the contents of the backed up profile folder into the new profile folder. Choose to overwrite existing files of the same name.
       6. Start Thunderbird.

Hello.

Is there an "auto correct" for Thunderbird 91 Windows 10 Desktop Home Edition, like there is in Word Documents?

If not, why not? If there is, would this be an 'add-on' that I could download?

NOTE: I am not meaning a 'spell checker'.

Hi, I'm struggling to resolve an issue that I noticed when organizing my emails all into individualized folders. Somehow my threads are mixing together different conversations, as demonstrated in the image attached. I've tried right clicking the properties and "repairing" the folder but that did not have an effect. I'm new to Thunderbird so perhaps I am doing something wrong that is obvious.

Any help is appreciated

I have only ever had one email address on Thunderbird for the last 17 years or so and now I have added some more email addresses. Each email address is listed on the left, however, in other email platforms there is a generalised view with inbox, sent., deleted etc., on top of the separate email addresses so that you can see what's come in or gone out without going to each address and dropping down the menu on each one to see if you have emails. Is there a way to arrange this so that one has a general view of all one's email activities on top of the individual addresses just as they have in Outlook or Apple Mail please?

I have TB set up for my gmail account and everything is working fine. However I have a folder on my HDD containing old e-mails and mail folders (these are files with an SBD or MSF extension or no extension) and I would like to be able to access these old-mails from my current TB setup/profile (or, if necessary, from a new profile - but in that case I would need some guidance as to how to set up that profile because I would not have an e-mail address I could use for the purpose). I have tried Local Folders~Settings and pointing Local Directory to the e-mail folder on my HDD but that doesn't work. Any help will be much appreciated.

I have two laptops each with Thunderbird (different email accounts on each laptop/Thunderbird).

On one laptop there is just one profile called <8 character name string>.default

On the other laptop I have two profiles: one called <8 character name string>.default-release, the other <8 character name string>.default. The default-release profile contains the normal folders & files (and is the one which comes up if one uses Help-More Troubleshooting Information). The .default only contains times.json file.

Why does this difference exist ? Why not a straightforward .default profile on each laptop ?

Each Thunderbird is on the Release channel and version 91.9.0

If I want to move my "default-release" profile to a new laptop would I ..... a) copy <8 character name string>.default-release OVER the empty (newly created) .default; or b) simply paste it into C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Profiles (ie so it appears in addition to the .default); or c) paste all the contents of .default-release into (the newly created) .default folder please ?

I would appreciate some help on this.

Thank you

Just Installed 91 - What have you done? I have been using computers for 40 yearS - they still do the same as they always did - true you have some nice add on like the calendar etc and thats great I loved TBird until now. On the good side it looks very pretty but I was happy enough before.

I was on 60 and it worked fine so why dick around with it to the extent you have.

The address book - what a waste of time setting that up at least 6 hours reinstalling mab to screwlite.

Adresses - only one TO address now - why? Move the TO CC box on top why?

Attachments - why change that?

No doubt there is more for me to find - BUT LOOK HERE

IT WORKED FINE - I DO NOT NEED TO KEEP RELEARNING THIS STUFF ESPECIALLY IF THERE IS NO BENEFIT. STOP IT PLEASE - KEEP THE OLD CONVENTIONS AND MENUS. DO NOT KEEP HIDING THEM IN ALL THE CORNERS. IF YOU ARE GOING TO GET PEOPLE TO DO THESE UPDATES CAN YOU GET PEOPLE WITH WORK EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE OF THE OLD CONVENTIONS WHICH NEED TO BE RETAINED. Thanks from a very frustrated user

All other emails go into the Sent Folder. I am perplexed. Thanks for any help. Donna

All of a sudden today, emails are not being filtered until I open the inbox. Then, all of a sudden, the mails which have built up in the inbox for the last few hours suddenly get filtered into all the folders they are supposed to go to, and I receive the alerts that they've arrived, all of which they're supposed to do when they arrive, not wait until I manually open the inbox to trigger a filter.

This is a major problem for me. I have clients who I need to respond to promptly, and the way I know I have emails from them is that the emails appear in their client folders. If I have to open my inbox manually to get it to filter, then I will spend my whole day checking my inbox every 5 minutes, and I can't do that as I have actual work I need to do.

I am now several hours behind on my email, I have clients who think I didn't respond to them immediately. This is a huge problem for me. This whole system worked fine until yesterday and I haven't changed a thing about my Thunderbird setup.

How do I make sure my filters are always working as they should without me having to remember to check that they don't suddenly need to be manually triggered?

Hi Everybody,

Help! I'm running Thunderbird 91.7.0 on a Win 7 computer. About four days ago when T'bird opened it asked me to set up a new account. I'm a geezer, not a techie and this is a serious problem for me. From what I've read it seems that T'bird doesn't know where to find the profile (?) it needs. I've managed to find where the profiles are, but I can't figure out how to re-create my old T'bird using them. Can anyone help me? I'd really appreciate any help you can give. Thanks.

Bob the Geezer

PS I've been using Thunderbird for 15 years or so and have never had a problem with it. it's great to use and I'm crippled with out it!
