Up until Tuesday Thunderbird & Gmail were working fine & have een for years. Suddenly when I tried to get my messages on June 7, I got the message: "Sending of password for user napaneedlepoint did not succeed. Mail server pop.googlemail.com responded: Username and password not accepted."
I can get to Gmail just fine from my browser. I checked preferences & the passwrds are right. I have tried closing & opening Thunderbird several times -- no change. i shut my Mac down every night. No change each morning.
I dowloaded 91.8.0 and reinstalled -- no change.
I see nothing about oAuth in my passwords section & no option to see this. I run my business using this & this is a huge HUGE problem.
Please help!

Hi: I use Thunderbird 38.7.2 on a MacBook Pro with MacOS 10.11.6. Thunderbird tells me that it is up to date, and that I am on the release update channel.
As of today, 9 June 2022, Gmail rejects my password, and re-entering it does not help.
I went into Preferences/Account Settings/<account_name>/Server Settings/Security Settings, Options are
Normal Password Encrypted Password Kerberos/GSSAPI NTLM TLS Certificate.
Nothing about OAuth2.
Read that version 38 of Thunderbird is supposed to be OAuth2 compatible, so I'm stuck. As Thunderbird thinks it is up to the latest and greatest, I cannot update it to something newer. And I do not see a way to enable OAuth2.
The answer is probably obvious. just not to me.

I using Thuderbird 60.9.0 (32-bit), as I'm stuck on 32-bit Ubuntu which is no longer updated. My Gmail accounts no longer accept the "Normal password" authentication method and are insisting on OAuth 2.0.
I've found the page that claims OAuth2 was added to Thunderbird 38.0. I also found instructions for setting up OAuth 2.0 in Thunderbird.
However, when I go to Account Setting : Sever Settings the ONLY options are Normal password, Encrypted password, Kerberos / GSSAPI. and NTLM. That, in spite of the fact that the SMTP server has those options PLUS OAuth2.

running latest TB version OAUTH2 settings done (imap and smpt) cookies and java enabled os is win7
Finally got TB to authenticate connecting to gmail account via OAUTH2 - only after full system reboot -- If TB left running after successful connection - mail works fine for maybe an hour, then TB gives a failure to authenticate error and no connection to gmail works. Closing TB and restarting does not help. Only possible to connect after a full system reboot. After a full sys reboot, TB will authenticate to gmail account and mail works. If TB is closed and restarted, gmail account authenticates _IF_ done within the first hour. Otherwise TB gives a failure to authenticate error.
Any idea what I should try next?
Thanks

Thunderbird is on my laptop. If somebody defeats my lock screen (or if I have a negligent moment), I don't want just anybody who accesses my laptop to gain access to my email. It is a security concern (retired CISSP here). Thus, I want to disable password retention. What setting will accomplish that without manually going in at every logout to remove stored passwords? I plan to do some international travel, and the laptop will accompany me.

I can't use Gmail in Thunderbird. I get the error "Login to server imap.googlemail.com with username failed" Gmail works on other devices, but not on my PC windows/10. I have set up a POP3 account with the same name and it works in Thunderbird, but my imap account will not accept my password. Keeps asking for new password. What can I do??

I use v102.0b5 (64-bit) on Mac OS 10.14.6 with a main password to protected my mail account passwords.
When I start Thunderbird, I have to enter my main password. Problem: The little window pops up several times even while I am already typing my main password. So I have to wait a bit until Thunderbird "calms down" and re-enter the password. But even after pressing enter, it may pop up again, but usually Thunderbaird has indeed received my password and the access to my mail accounts work fine.
This should be really fixed as soon as possible because it is very annoying.

I keep getting the error "Sending of the message failed. An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: 25KGq41h048594 This message has been blocked for containing SPAM-like characteristics.. Please check the message and try again." when I am trying to send regular emails.
How can I fix this!?

I get my Internet service through Xfinity but the account is in my wife's name & email. How does this affect the email/password I use when I set up a account? I have tried every combination I can think of and cannot get logged into TB! Very frustrating. Wouldn't it be easier to set up a TB User and PW and forget about the email provider? Seems to cause a lot of problems. Thanks!

Shouldn't Thunderbird be smart enough to flag any email with an ISO attachment as suspicious?

Hello, I setup my own mailserver. It has a valid lets encrypt wildcard-certificate for *.tld.com. The mailserver usees imap.tld.com for imap and smtp.tld.com for smtp. So the certificate should be ok. When i add an account to thunderbird i get the ssl-certificate exception for tld.com. But the tld.com should not be used, only imap / smtp. Why is thunderbird trying to validate a certificate for tld.com?
