Thunderbird is consuming huge amount of data traffic from a limited connection

I've been using Thunderbird for almost 2-3 years and lately, I was connected to a limited internet connection and noticed that Thunderbird is consuming more than 25GB per day on average. Although my emails are not changing that frequent but it keeps on consuming a lot of traffic.

I'm using configuration for Exchange mail server and synching the mail every 1 minute. The size of the offline messages is 3.5 GB

How can I stop this consumption? Or at least to understand why is this happening?

Hi, I'm using Thunderbird chat with XMPP and Openfire as XMPP server. My only problem is that I can't transfer file on chat window. However, I can easily send files on other XMPP client such as Pidgin or AstraChat.

So, my question is, does Thunderbird chat support file transfer ?

Ever since last update, Thunderbird has not worked. Runs out of time, to download new messages, won't let me delete messages. Thinks for a long time. Uninstalled program and then reinstalled . No change. Not sure what is going on.

Tips for managing not clean profiles

I have a lot of issues with my mailbox. Constantly have to repair folders because the wrong subject shows on the wrong email. A big one I had was my inbox getting bogged down, but I learned it doesn't like to have more than a couple thousand emails in it. I kept getting a "exceeded maximum number of connections" error but read something about too many folders, got rid of a few folders and that error went away.

1) What other kinds of tips are there for keeping TB behaving well? 2) I see that my profile has a lot of old files for old folders that don't exist anymore. There's also nstmp files and foldercache.json files. Should I delete all these types of things to clean up? Or should I just start fresh with a new profile and re-download all my email messages? I can't imagine how long that will take because sometimes folders download quickly but other times take forever and I'm not sure the difference. I just downloaded a 4000 email folder in a 20th the time of another 2000 email folder.

Our company email host uses Office 365 exchange. As of yesterday (26 May 2022) all emails were blocked to Thunderbird on our networked office PCs using Windows 10. We cannot send or receive email on Thunderbird (fortunately it still comes through to our iPhones). Our host hold us that Microsoft has "recently started blocking POP3 connections on software such as Thunderbird".

 How do we fix this problem so that we can continue using Thunderbird, which has our email records for some 10 years?  We do not want to use a Microsoft mail client unless we really have to!  I imagine we aren't the only ones with this problem, but I couldn't easily find it by searching help.

I've been using Thunderbird for a number of years. I recently went back to using Windows from Linux, and am having difficulty with the Windows version of Thunderbird. The issue is when I go to set up my gmail accounts, I get a box popping up that should show my google account so I log in through there, but it hangs and never moves past. The pics below shows both the window that pops up that never changes and the server settings.

I've let it sit for up to an hour but nothing changes.

I've looked and haven't seen this question elsewhere, so I figure it must be something on my end. I'm using Thunderber 91.9.1 on Windows 11 Home OS build 22000.675. I'm not using any sort of VPN, and I've tried with Windows firewall both on and off, no changes.

Im looking for help. TB deletes all email. I have an old backup email account. All file ...AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird in zip. Procedure: 0. delete all current file in folder ...AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird 1 unpack archive 2 open Thunderbird 3 turn on offline mode 4. read old emails, all emails are there. 5. clos TB 6 open TB 7. all email is gone !? HTML signature converts to plain text when replying.

I have an HTML signature that seems to work nicely when I compose a new email, but when I reply back to somebody who has replied to said email, my signature sometimes falls back into plain text mode, looking like a complete jumble. I get around this problem by copying the original signature and just pasting it in my reply.

A few key notes; - Account setting is set to use HTML as default, and it does. - The reply I get back still retains and displays the original HTML signature. - When I hit reply, that first HTML signature is still there, but the new signature is in plain text.

So to summarise; It's not processing HTML above the reply line, only below it.

Is there a way to absolutely force the composer to use HTML all the time everytime?

I successfully sent my last email on 26Oct21. Ever since,I cannot send email. I get the following message when I try to send: Sending of the message failed. The message could not be sent because connecting to Outgoing server (SMTP) mail.shaw.ca failed. The server may be unavailable or is refusing SMTP connections. Please verify that your Outgoing server (SMTP) settings are correct and try again.

I have tried everything suggested on this forum and other online help sites. One source suggested trying to ping my email server,and that failed as well. I tried temporarily reducing the TLS to 1.1,but that didn't help. I tried temporarily disabling my Windows antivirus and firewall,but that didn't work. I am at a loss on how to proceed,and am planning to take my desktop to a local computer repair shop to see if they can figure it out. Can you suggest anything that might help? Thanks very much!

I recently installed Ubuntu 22.04 and now the address book crashes when I attempt to use it to create an email; thunderbird freezes and give me the window stating 'not responding' and if want to force quit or wait. I end up having to force quit. But I use my address book's saved lists for a number of emails, and now this is not working. How can I fix it? I would need detailed steps, as I am not anything but a general user. Thanks.

Hi all, I have two Gmail accounts, one private and one organizational, each one with its own unique problem. I access both accounts through Thunderbird for Windows, the Gmail Android app, and Chrome on my laptop. I use POP to be able to access the emails even when offline and store them in subfolders. I have learned that if I keep the messages marked as unread on the phone and Chrome, TB will download the messages.

1) My private Gmail account downloads only 4-5 messages at a time, and I have to manually hit: "get messages" many times until it downloads all the messages. Very annoying.

2) My organizational Gmail account through the university worked fine and downloaded as many new messages as were on the server. Until May 9th, when it stopped connecting with the Gmail server. It keeps asking me to re-enter the username and password (which it had saved, and hadn't changed), only to claim that Gmail is not accepting cookies. Needless to say that I haven't changed any of my cookies preferences neither on TB (which accepts all cookies) nor on Chrome (which blocked 3rd party cookies, but had an exception for the University's servers). I tried enabling any type of cookie in the account on Chrome, but that didn't help. I tried changing the authentication from password to OAuth2, and it didn't help.

I have over 200,000 emails on a gmail account I'm hoping to sync with Thunderbird. My goal is to have them all downloaded onto a local server on my computer so I can refer to them all offline. I've been periodically pressings "get messages" which used to download messages 1000 at a time (I'm not sure why it doesn't continually sync with my inbox!) Though, sometimes it would download 2-3 at a time which was frustrating and fairly futile. Now, it's stopped downloading entirely. How do I keep syncing my inbox?

I've noticed that lately the Thunderbird Trash mailbox indicates that there is trash present after the Trash box has been emptied. I have to select another mailbox, then go back to the Trash mailbox before it correctly indicates that the mailbox has been emptied. I'm currently using version 91.10.0. This has been happening on both Windows and Linux machines in my possession. Thanks for looking into it.

Hello, Thunderbird gave me a popup window letting me know I need to download the latest version. I did that, my version is 91.10.0. But, Thunderbird has asked me three more times since the upgrade to install the same file. Is there a setting inside Tbird to have it automatically install updates?

While browsing e-mails, e-mails open and when the e-mail has no photo attachments, the program behaves normally, the messages are loaded quickly. When the message includes attachments in the form of photos, various jpg, png formats, the program hangs for a moment, about 10 - 25 seconds, it happens only in the case of e-mails containing photos. I have 4 computers with the same configurations, with the same program, the same configuration, the same windows 10, the settings are the same on all computers, the same account type (POP3), the same e-mail end, and stranger the problem occurs on 2 computers and on the other 2 no, on the other 2 they have the same email with the photo message, the email is loaded very quickly, on the other 2 you have to wait as I wrote above until they are buffered, and the other 2 computers open the message preview in the same way, I couldn't find anything about it in the help, please help.

When sending a message it is having such a difficulty in copying message to Sent folder, showing this message with the saving activity bar (green) continuously. Eventually, it fails to save in the Sent folder, although the message has been sent.

What would be the reason for this and how to fix this recurring problem?

Dear All

We have problems with thunderbird when we set up an e-mail account ex sales@mrcheap.gr to more than two thunderbird clients.

If we use simultaneously the same mail account with thunderbird then the mails cannot be received at thunderbird.

We have no messages. Our installation is IMAP.

So you can undestand if we have 4 users using thunderbird for the same account sales@mrcheap.gr at different computers they cannot work because they are not receive messages.

Webmail is working fine. We have this problem just with Thunderbird.
