When my mother's old Win 10 computer stopped booting up, it went to a shop. The tech supposedly copied all her important files over to a new replacement system, running Win 11. Once home, I installed Thunderbird myself. All of her old emails popped up and new ones continue to come in. No problems there.

But there are no contacts listed in her Thunderbird address book at all. Before we (mainly me) resort to typing everything back in, I'm hoping that the needed file(s) may just be misplaced or renamed. If anyone can give me some help regarding what I should try looking for, it would be much appreciated!

I have windows 10. Was getting a message that Thunderbird could not automatically update and that I would have to download the latest version and install it. I did. I am now on Version 91.10.0 64 bit.

Now every day I get that same message. Thinking its a new download I start to download it only to find its the same EXE file I downloaded last time.

After running the new install, it leaves 2 short cuts on my desktop. BOTH point to the same program name and location.

Is there something wrong with that update? Thanks.

I am trying to re-install TB on a win 10 laptop on which it was previously working but was re-installed.

I try to ADD an Account, complete the name, email and password, click DONE and it enters an infinite loop asking for my password. When I cancel this nonsense it indicates that it can't log in to my gmail account event thought the credentials are correct.

I then donloaded and installed POSTBOX and it installed and configured everything to allow me access to my email but I cannot get TB to do the same.

Any assistance would be extremely welcome. Very frustrating!

The installation has trashed the ability to open the app in a usable state.

I only get the message seen in the attached image.

I do NOT want to create a new profile. I want to continue to use the saved emails, etc which I know are in an existing profile, given its folder size.

What is the way forward out of this mess?

Windows 8.1 does not give me the option to move back to a previous version as Win 7 did.

TIA

I purchased a new computer installed Thunderbird and did not bring my old profile over from the old computer. I have been using the new computer for 2 months and find I need to import the old e-mails into the new computer. I would like to do this without corrupting the e-mails I have received in the last 2 months. Thanks, all of the help I've seen is for bringing the old profile into a clean empty new version of Thunderbird.

I have two email addresses protected by one Spamarrest account. When setting up Thurnderbird, I have entered the Spamarrest server information for the first one and it was accepted and is working. But when I enter the server information again for the second email address (both use the same server information) I get a message saying that information has already been used. Without going through the Spamarrest server, I will continue to get spam on the second email address, which I do not want. Is there any way to set up a second email address on Thunderbird that uses the same server information as another email address? Thank you.

I am missing most of my folders. I have many subfolders but they are not showing up on Thunderbird. They are showing up on gmail but I much prefer to use Thunderbird. I only have inbox, outbox, and trash bin showing; not even a sent file. How do i sync this with gmail? I have tried to uninstall and reinstall many times. I have tried the sync feature. Nothing is working! Feeling a bit frustrated with it!

Help! I have been stuck on 60.9.1. I tried to upgrade many years ago and lost all my past emails and folders. A search at the time said there was no way to get them back so I reinstalled 60 and have lived there ever since. A couple of weeks ago Google mail changed their security protocols and dropped POP and 60.9 apparently can not read IMAP. I love Thunderbird and would prefer to stay but I don't want to loose all my past emails and folders. So, I would like to upgrade to the latest stable version. Is there a path that won't dump my history? I have read many posts on here but still can't find the path to being current. Can I simply install the latest version or do I have to install in stages. If in stages what is the order of version to install and should I stop at each version to check/test something before moving to the next install?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Got a new Windows 11 PC -- and needed to move Thunderbird from old Windows 10.

Initially used MozBackUp - which I know is a very old program and not really any longer supported -- but it had always continued to work as recent as about a year ago when a similar transfer had to be made - transferring everything.

However this time (5-22) MozBackUp did not transfer everything. There are some folders/emails that did not properly transfer. Unfortunately the fact everything did not transfer was not immediately noticed -- and the computer user began to use the new Thunderbird install on the new Windows 11 --- gathering new emails/contacts. This means that it is not practical to delete this entire Thunderbird installation and use some alternative method to MozBackUp to try and move Thunderbird and get all files to move.

I've looked into using the add on - 'ImportExportToolsNG' to see if it might be able to selectively export files that never moved the first try - and import them into the new Windows 11 Thunderbird -- but the how-to info is confusing about proper file types to export and be sure they will import and be readable within Thunderbird.

Are there any really good explanation videos/instruction for 'ImportExportToolsNG' that are not old and outdated which cover the type of thing I need -- which is to selectively export and import only certain folders/files?

Or is there another method to handle this better that I am not aware of?

I was having massing problems with my email, constantly re-downloading and at a snail's pace. It would often hang and at the rate it was re-indexing and re-downloading it would take 500 years. So I tried the Beta and that didn't help. I downgraded back to production TB but decided to start without my local folders in case the volume of them was causing the issue. Sure enough, with no local folders it runs great.

Then I wanted to start moving some local folders to the new profile slowly and watch what happened. I figured I could just move them as I need them. I moved a few that were not nested inside folders and TB recognized them. But when I move a folder with several sub-folders, it does not recognize them.

The help says to delete .msf files, but I only have mosmsg's and sbd's.

How do I get TB to recognize these folders of local emails?

Thanks!

To fix another issue I upgraded to Beta and downgraded back to production TB. I now have nothing in my address book. I believe the address book got migrated to a different form when I upgraded to Beta, but I can get it from a backup of the file from before I did all this.

What is the name of the file I need to copy over, and where is it located?

Here is how my settings are set for the address book.

Thanks!
