Sadly, my old Windows 10 PC crashed, and I'm migrating to a new computer. I have a backup of the old default profile folder (9k7faw1z.default), but not of the entire Profiles folder. I have tried to import this old default profile using the import function in my new Thunderbird install on my new Windows 11 computer.

Alas, I get the error message "Import failed unexpectedly; more information may be available in the Error Console." I looked in the error console, and it's empty.

Is there a better way to import my old data from my old default profile folder? It's 3GB of valuable data and I'll be in a pickle if I can't access it.

Thanks very much.

As of today Cox is moving all email services to Yahoo. I have been using Thunderbird for Cox.net email. I have about 40 existing folders under cox.net. Yahoo now has Cox.net and is providing my new emails so I still have the same email address and can access it through webmail. What is the best way to transition this from the old Cox cox.net to the new Yahoo cox.net on Thunderbird and keep all existing folders? Thank You

Have been trying to upgrade for quite a while now but 68.12.1 is the last version that works. Any newer TB is mostly blank, settings can't be opened, the hamburger menu on the top right doesn't work. Account manager can be opened and shows accounts correctly.

Versions I tried: 78.5.1, 78.10.2, 91.7.0. None of them work.

Remedies I attempted to no avail:

  • Delete global-messages-db.sqlite
  • Create a new profile
  • Delete AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird completely (with backup)

I'm on Windows 10 (64bit 21H2). Downgrading to 68.12.1 restores full functionality.

My main motivation for upgrading is for a potential fix to the RSS address cannot be found bug.

Is there any chance I can get a newer version running?

Am having a strange issue with adding a GMAIL account.

I had some issues with my account, and removed all email accounts from thunderbird, and moved the profiles to a separate hard drive, in order to keep space on my normally used hard drive.

I go to add my GMAIL account, enter the password, etc, then click on "done" as all the details are pulling through

Then thunderbird opens a new window with gmail confirmation in it, but as soon as I click next/ok there, I get error 500, that's all we know.

I thought at first, it was a gmail error, but I can easily add gmail to outlook, so assume it's a error/old date in thunderbird that's causing the issue.

Any thoughts on the issue?

"500. That’s an error.

There was an error. Please try again later. That’s all we know."

I have Thunderbird 91 installed and working on a MacBook Pro. Currently running OS Mojave, but will be updating that shortly to accommodate other software needs. That update will obsolete my Outlook app (Outlook for Mac 2011, v14.7.7) I have an unfortunate number of saved emails that I need to migrate to TB for future access. I have exported those to an .olm file, but TB doesn't recognize it, and neither does Apple Mail as an intermediate step to a mailbox file (sorry, I don't know the suffix). Guidance appreciated, otherwise I just have to s**k it up and spring for a new version of MS 365 to get a new version of Outlook.

I have searched the help here and have noted that a few other people have asked the same question without receiving a response.

However I might as well try!

I have two profiles I want to merge into one so that the end user will open their email and have all their emails in the one place in thunderbird. Its the same user who was using Thunderbird on two devices so there are two profiles to be merged onto the one device.

I have tried the import-export tools etc but they didn't seem to work.

I have installed the old profile into the same location as the existing profile on the new device and can of course access it by changing the default location in the server settings. The older emails are there. However what I want to achieve is that the end user will have all the emails from both profiles visible within the one inbox o the newer device.

How can I achieve this?

Any constructive suggestions would be most welcome.

I've been using Thunderbird for years, always storing message on my machine. My local profile folder is now 2.3GB with 14,191 files in 688 folders. I suspect there is a lot of "orphaned" junk there. Most suspicious are hundreds of folders and files in subfolders named Cache and Cache.Trash, all dated in 2017. There is a cache2 folder that appears to be current.

I also have several other folders/files with dates (modified) back in 2017 and 2018, apparently no longer in use. I'm migrating to a new machine and would like to avoid junk if it's really junk. Is there a "cleanup" tool, or any guidance on how to identify and delete orphans?

Or... is there a way to "export" all and then "import" on a new machine. I've seen the migrate video, but it just tells how to copy/paste everything.

We are just migrating to Thunderbird from Outlook, so quite new to Thunderbird... I have recreated an Outlook "rule", as a filter in TB to forward emails from a specific sender to a gmail address. The filter works fine on most of the mails, but fails on one with the error message:

"The mail server responded: Syntax error - line too long. "

However, the same mail can be forwarded from the inbox with a manual forward. What is the difference between the "Forward Message to" action in a filter -and- a right click and forward to the same mail item in the inbox? ...or does anyone have any other comments? The mail item that fails is an HTML mail of 178KB.

Thunderbird stopped downloading new message 3 days ago 5/16/22. I tried a bunch of stuff, all failed. Finally, I deinstalled Thunderbird and deleted my profiles. I reinstalled Thunderbird and created a new account (gmail). The automatic configuration reported "Checking password ..." PASSED. Next it reported "Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, username or password"

I am using IMAP:

 imap.gmail.com, 993, SSL/TLS, OAuth2
 smtp.gmail.com, 465, SSL/TLS, OAuth2

I tried changing authentication method to normal password, no luck. I am able to log in to gmail. My account is set to allow unsecure applications.

Any ideas what is going on?
