MacOS Sonoma 14.4 seems to have broken a number of apps. AFter updating to Sonoma 14.4 I experienced a great number of crashes with Thunderbird, so I completely uninstalled Thunderbird and removed all traces of plists, Application preferences, everything, reinstalled Thunderbird, and added back the two email accounts I use with it.

It now takes up to 30 seconds to start up Thunderbird, after which it happily no longer crashes, but obviously the startup time is unacceptable. I experience the same problem with Typora, and the developers there informed me that they believe the problem is with a Sonoma change that broke WebKit. I don't know if Thunderbird still uses Gecko or if the new version is WebKit. Please let me know if other Sonoma users have reported this problem or if it's just my system.

For past 24 hours only, I have been unable to open email attachments. v115.7.0, however last update was 31/01 and has worked perfectly until now. Still use Windows 10.

Double clicking on attachments does nothing, other than popup software option for formats without specified defaults. Either way, no indication that attachment is opening.

"Save as" is saving attachment document to target folder, however trying to open these errors, suggesting document is corrupted or in incorrect format.

Have tried restarting system to no effect; likewise error continuing in troubleshoot mode. Cannot see any obvious settings that would impact this, nor have I consciously altered any of these.

I'm certain this may be an easy fix, or my own error, but this is eluding me.

I have been using Thunderbird for years to access several @charter.net email addresses, lately administrated at Spectrum, which took over Charter. Everything was working normally until today. I can still receive emails, but when I send, I get an error message asking for a password: "password required for outgoing SMPT server" Manually entering a password in that error message box doesn't help. Spectrum support is not helpful beyond confirming that my email sends and receives normally as long as I access it on their website. Three clues: 1) Spectrum recently announced "new and improved" email. 2) One customer service person described my email addresses as "legacy". 3) My gmail address sends and receives just fine from Thunderbird as usual. Any insights appreciated! Thanks!

Good morning

My client uses Thunderbird as the default mail client. I have setup SMTP in the Sage ERP system as the email configuration.

If we send email from Sage, Thunderbird crashes, however, the email does send though. If we reopen Thunderbird, it continues to work, but crashes again, once an email is sent from Sage. Error code: bp-cfdfe3a3-9c4d-487d-9a10-e59510230413

What could cause this and do you have any possible solutions?

Kind regards Maritza [removed phone# from public forum]

I had Thunderbird automatically upgraded to 115. Since then I only see the new emails, all folders and emails from September 12th, 2023 have disappeared. Unfortunately, the restore command doesn't help with MozBackup either; it is executed but with no result. Please describe to me step by step how I can restore the folders and emails.

In this folder: C:\Users\kschl\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird is just an old profile. Therefore, I wanted to use a backup via MozBackup to restore all data, unfortunately this doesn't work. An initial comparison of the newly created profile also shows the folders, but they are not displayed in Thunderbird - there is an incorrect setting.

Please describe this to me step by step, including in which directory I should store the backup in the future.

I've been a faithful Thunderbird user since the beginning - and continue to use Thunderbird with our company's Microsoft365 deployment

until Monday of this week -- when suddenly I find that my credentials are being refused.

The symptoms

I've read and tried all the fixes proposed in the article at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/microsoft-oauth-authentication-and-thunderbird-202 (restarting thunderbird after each step, naturally)

  • have authorized Thunderbird to our Microsoft365 tenant
  • created and tried registering with a new thunderbird profile
  • have set my security settings to 'accept all cookies'
  • have used the config editor to remove 'oauth2.issuer' and 'oauth2.scope' values
  • I've checked that my account in Microsoft365 has IMAP and Authenticated SMTP enabled

So, since Monday, I've been living in hell, trying to pretend that the Microsoft Outlook app for macOS is useable, but it's practically debilitating to be forced to use that piece of software.

Can somebody please point me to another possible set of steps that I can use to try and diagnose this?

I absolutely hate myself for having to ask for help on this, but I'm at my wit's end...

Hello

When I restart my PC (windows 10) and open Thunderbird it takes over an hour to start up. I get the 'Thunderbird is not responding error' all the time and it is very very slow. Even when it eventually starts up, it crashes every time I click on the screen for about a day before it gets back to normal. I have just been leaving Thunderbird open but I need to restart my PC every now and then.

I have no Antivirus apart from Windows Security and have added the entire contents of the Thundebird file within the :C drive (Local Disk) to the exclusions.

When I start my windows PC in safe mode with networking, Thunderbird starts up immediately and I have no issues, but I have no idea what is causing it to be so slow when in normal start up and how I can fix this issue?

I have been having these issues for a long time now and have tried everything I can think of.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, have used Thunderbird for years and it would like to stick with the platform!

Many Thanks,
