The last update of Firefox Android completely broke base functionalities such as tabs, and you now have to go into sliding sub-menues just to open up new tabs, or even switch between tabs.

For the longest time, I've been trying to stave off using Chrome, even as more and more pages seem to flat-out not work, but with this latest update, I really can't excuse using Firefox anymore, as even basic usage now becomes a constant back-and-forth, trying to fight against the application itself.

Is there any way to resolve this, or am I forced to migrate?

Or, if this is not possible and Firefox Android 79 is indeed unusable, how do I upgrade to 68 (which I believe was the previous version) without losing my pre-existing tabs (of which I have oh-so-many).

There is a large info box popping up in the bottom of the screen when I close tabs. I usually press 'x' and close tabs starting with the last one but this info box that says 'tab closed' and has an undo button on it, is covering a big portion of the last tab including it's 'x' button. It is even larger in landscape mode. This is very annoying and if I want to close another tab I'd have to wait for it to disappear or try to press around it. It's a useful feature but could the experience be made more better?

I can't figure out how to find Collections in my updated version of Firefox Android (8-16-20). I keep reading the directions and can't find it. I only see 3 dots at the top, and can't find anything related to Collections in those menus. Help please! I've been spending a lot of time on this. Thanks.

To create new collections:

Open a new tab by tapping the + icon in the Open Tabs section on the Home screen.
Enter a keyword or URL in the address bar.
Tap the three dots at the bottom of the screen.
   Tap Save to Collection.
   Tap Add new collection.
Skip this step and proceed to the next step if this is your first time creating a collection since the Add new collection button will not display.
Enter a name for the new collection in the text field that displays.
Tap Done from your virtual keyword.

The collection now displays within the Collections section on the Home screen.

When I click on any link from the Firefox homepage, the link opens in a new tab. For example, if I:

  • Tap the address bar from an existing tab to get the homepage
  • Tap the Wikipedia link from the "top sites" section of the homepage

Then the Wikipedia page will open in an additional tab. I want it to open in the same tab, because my Firefox session gets cluttered with many tabs that were all opened this same way.

Is it possible to avoid opening new tabs when following links from the homepage (after reaching the homepage from tapping the address bar as described)?

Using a 5.1 inch screen that when held horizontally only has 1 tab preview viewed at a time when the tab list is in use. There is too much unused space in the tab list. Is there a way to change the mobile ui to revert to the old updates ui? That one did not have this problem with at least 3-4 tab previews being visible at one time. The image I uploaded is an example of how much space is taken up by the blocky design and only 1 tab is visible here.

There is a design flaw in a recent update of firefox for android. When I am trying to close tabs quickly from the bottom, the "tab closed, undo" button is now positioned directly over the X mark on the next tab to close the next one and I have to wait until it goes away to close the next tab. This is extremely frustrating and I am hoping this is fixed soon. It is taking 3 times as long to close my tabs in the order I would like to. The button just needs to be very slightly thinner and the X mark for the next tab will not be blocked anymore.

I ALSO WANT TO ADD THAT I STILL CANNOT REORDER MY TABS ON ANDROID AND IT IS DRIVING ME INSANE. PLEASE FIX!!!!

Hi, I had around 6,500 tabs open in my Firefox on Android v97.2.0. Unfortunately I decided to check how close all tabs works. All my tabs were closed without showing any confirmation warning. And the pop-up to undo seemed to animate in and out without leaving any chance to press it.

I don't know why Firefox keeps making these bad interface decisions. Please treat our tabs with more importance. Regardless of whether someone has 65 or 6,500 tabs open, the close all tabs button should not lose them so easily. And you place close all tabs right under the recently closed tabs button. Close all tabs should be hidden in tab settings, not openly accessible to make a mess. If you insist on keeping it out in the main menu, please ask twice and warn about the number of tabs which will be closed.

I have another idea, for which I have sent feedback and nobody seems to have read it. I think if a Firefox user is signed into Firefox sync, app their open tabs should be actively saved to bookmarks as they open and close them. This way I should have a folder of open tabs from Android and desktop. And that should have its own failsafe where it shouldn't just sync an accidental close all tabs action.

Please bring these ideas to the attention of the people who fix bugs or design new features for future releases. I may not check this support request too often as I may end up opening 100s more tabs in the next few weeks.

Please make it easier to submit feedback on Firefox for Android. And please take this request seriously. Firefox is approaching v100 and you still make it so easy for people to lose hundreds and thousands of tabs with one click. You seriously need to go back to basics and first respect our open tabs. Prevent them from being accidentally or purposely closed. If I have 6,500 tabs open, when I close all, the undo button should display for 6,500 seconds. Scale it up so I can recover it easier.

Better would have been if you had spent time adding a simple confirmation dialog which asks am I sure I want to close thousands of tabs.

Next, Firefox needs to make a tab system which is like Google Docs combined with Firefox sync for open tabs. Don't just show open tabs synced across devices. Any device can be lost or have close all tabs initiated. Go one step further and have a living automatic bookmark system so that every device feeds into my Firefox account. This way I could have all tabs automatically bookmarked and saved and at least have them accessible if things go wrong.

And this support page should be smart enough not to lose everything I've typed here. Pressing back should not wipe this text box.

Please start designing Firefox to be smarter and actually preserve my tabs and browsing session. Either don't close tabs so easily or automatically bookmark open tabs so even if my phone falls into a lake, I can go home, open Firefox on my laptop and see my open tabs from my phone saved as a folder. Once I get a new phone, Firefox should offer to restore that browsing session of open tabs from that saved folder. This is where you could integrate close tabs automatically for anyone who wants to keep their open tabs and bookmarked open tabs clean and tidy of old tabs.

Going forward I hope you will test Firefox better with people who keep hundreds and thousands of tabs open. Also each stable release in future should work towards my idea of asking confirmation before possibly doing something stupid like closing all 6,500 tabs without checking I'm sure I want to do that. Hopefully that should be possible with one release.

And then over a few releases, please make live open tabs automatic bookmarks a reality. I'm quite sad now that I've lost 6,500+ tabs I had saved to read later, over the last 3 years

Firefox would be the best browser if Mozilla ALLOWED US TO MOVE TABS AND BOOKMARKS so that we could keep tabs about the same topic together.

But Mozilla doesn't seem to be concerned with such a simple and basic function, nor the users that request it. We used to be able to move tabs (like in my list of 55 tabs), but with the last update...

Not only can we not move tabs to group them, but an accidentally closed tab that is "undone" is put at top of page, away from its other related tabs. Many good changes, but one really bad one. Please allow us to move tabs.

Please, please, for the love of Odin, can someone PLEASE help me... Asking here, is my absolute last resort. Usually, I work at finding solutions to my own problems when it comes to computer stuff like this, as it helps me to learn; but here, I'm pretty well stumped... I want to set up my Firefox Android browser to switch AUTOMATICALLY to new tabs that I have just opened from the Open link in a new tab option, found within the long-press context menu. Currently, when I select that option, the new tab opens in the background, and I get the standard New tab opened - Switch infobox/button... What I actually want however, is for Firefox to automatically switch to the newly opned tab, rather than me having to hit the Switch button before it times out, or press the tabs button on the top-right, and then select the new tab, from the tab view window.

There are few add-ons for Firefox Android in any case, and one that achieves my aim is just not there. There is also, rather irritatingly, no option to do this in Firefox-Android's settings menu... I've searched online for info that relates to any solution that can be achieved through about:config options, but I just kind find an option to do this... browser.tabs.loadInBackground seemed to be the one I needed, if set to False but my version of FF Android, doesn't have that option available.

I'm using the current version of Firefox nightly (because the standard FF Android, doesn't let you access about:config)

Can someone please help me?

Dear all,

I bought a new android smartphone. Unfortunately I couldn't find any way to transfer all Firefox tabs and preferences from the previous smartphone to the new one. Everything was/is snchronized by Firefox Sync - I am able to view the list of all the tabs from my previous smartphone but there are way to much to open all them manually in this way.

Does anyone have an idea how i can restore the wohle tab session on the new smarphone like how it was on the old one before?

Many thanks in advance for your help!

Best Regards!

One reason I have always used Firefox on my phone is that I HATE tabs staying open. It worked great for me to swipe away Firefox, and opening it again I could click my Shopping List, my Canvas for school, my image backup...everything I wanted. Now I can't and it's really frustrating.

Can Firefox PLEASE make all tabs close every time you close or swipe away from Firefox? I do NOT want to use the stupid Quit button every time.
