All of a sudden, I can no longer open new tabs in Firefox just by clicking the top bar (sorry, don't know how to describe this: the space that sits just below the line with 'File', 'Edit', 'View', 'History', etc. (Menu bar?) Formerly, when I had a tab open I used to be able just to click that line and a new tab would open. To open a new tab now I have to look to the right of the screen, and press the '+' button (Open a new tab Control+ 1) that appears in that same area just below the that is there. Not nearly as convenient. Please tell me how to fix this as simply as possible (I am not very computer literate). I have done nothing to change anything in the Firefox settings, so don't know why this happened all of a sudden. Very frustrating. My bookmarks all disappeared too, by the way, thoughI figured out how to resstore them to top of screen. I am using Windows 10 Thanks in advance, A frustrated Cynthia

I'm running version 118.02.2 (64-bit) of Firefox on Windows 12. I *always* have the 'Open previous windows and tabs' checked. Starting yesterday, Firefox opens with nothing other than a blank page. Luckily for me, this has happened in the past and I have a Bookmarks Menu folder with my default tabs saved. Even so, it's still frustrating.

Since probably FF94, i can't remove single page windows (like popup) by turning them into a tab anymore.

Before when a popup window appeared i moved it to the already opened main window to turn it into tab to not have ton of "recently closed windows". But since FF94, when i move a window, instead of disappear after become a tab, firefox only duplicate the webpage (i have the new tab and the identical webpage window). Until now the only way i have to remove the annoying windows is to kill firefox app with windows task manager and uncheck them in the tab recovery.

How i can have firefox able to really move windows into tab like before instead of copy them? Or have a way to permanently delete unwanted windows i don't use anymore in the "recently closed windows" list without killing the task.

Also moving tab from a firefox window to another work normally (no duplicate), the problem occurs only when FF windows has a single tab.

In the new version of the Developer Edition the options "close tabs to the right" and "close other tabs" are in a sub-menu named "Close Multiple Tabs" inside the context menu. Is there's a way to change this so that they will appear directly in the main context menu? I use "close tabs to the right" often and I find this very annoying.

My POS system is set to open in firefox as defult page. So it would be nice if I could open it in full screen by default.

So Can I know, Is there any way to make the firefox window open in full screen by default?

I know that Firefox can expand to fill my entire screen with its Full Screen feature by togglling Full Screen keyboard shortcut of F11 key. But just I want to enable that feature by default.

Any suggestions on how to revert to full screen by default would be greatly appreciate.

Thanks in advance.

Sometimes when loading a page, and the page is slow to respond, I will see a strange situation: The page is totally blank (the F12 tool does not display page content). The refresh button is gray (disabled), or sometimes although the refresh button enabled, the url textbox is "about:blank", which means I cannot actually reload the page I want to read. I have to re-navigate to the page through the link in the previous link. I'm not sure whether I got across. I hope the issue can be fixed.

How do I find/search for a "container tab" name from hundreds open among multiple windows?

(Previously asked -- but not answered -- in a roundabout way: "Searching for open tabs among many windows needs improvement", https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1360159 )

I find myself, surprisingly, juggling between hundreds of open tabs on topics of interest -- and FF remains nice and stable!

Lately, I have been increasingly assigning/using "container tabs" (vs New Private Window) for shopping, banking, etc. -- very handy.

However, I noticed that I can no longer FIND any of those tabs by name using the search feature of the "List all tabs" button (or via the "%" method). Only traditional/normal tab names appear to be searchable from among those open among multiple windows.

This is rather crippling time-and-effort-wise. I find myself unnecessarily duplicating already-open tabs simply because I can't easily find the "old" ones anymore.

Someone previously suggested trying the extension "Tab Manager Plus"; but as I reported in my previous post, (for me) it caused hesitations and overall FF response became sluggish with my laptop's fan kicking in often -- unacceptable. (Also, apparently no updates since 2018, and I see recent user comments of losing windows full of tabs.)

Is there any good built-in solution I've missed?

I just reinstalled my operative system, and with that my Firefox settings got reset. I know there is an entry in about:config to prevent ads from opening new tabs and pop ups without authorization, even from legit websites like the login pop-up windows when doing a sign in in Google, in those cases to allow the windows it's needed to click on the lock icon next to the URL bar and allow it from there. The problem is that I don't remember the name of that setting and I have spend an hour looking for it on Google.

I have my tab bar below the other toolbars. I have a userChrome.css to help set things up the way I use them. System is Linux 64-bit.

Just updated Firefox from a few-months-older version to 91.6.1esr from the official repos and my tab bar is now blank. No tabs, no nothing. When I open a "new tab" I just get the new page; the "Back" arrow is greyed out, so it presumably is a net tabsheet. But I have no tab to get back to the previous page, all is blank.

The tab bar is there at the top OK in Troubleshooting Mode. En/dis-abling all my extensions etc. makes no difference in either mode.

Fixes for related issues tend to focus on userChrome.css but none offers a straight code sample to fix this issue. Here is an extract from mine, I have no idea whether any of it is relevant:

#nav-bar { /* main toolbar */
  -moz-box-ordinal-group: 1 !important;
  box-shadow: none !important;
}
#PersonalToolbar { /* bookmarks toolbar */
  -moz-box-ordinal-group: 2 !important;
}
#TabsToolbar { /* tab bar */
  -moz-box-ordinal-group: 3 !important;
  padding-top: 0 !important;
}

/* FIX TO MOVE TAB BAR BELOW TOOLBAR /*

#navigator-toolbox toolbar:not(#nav-bar):not(#toolbar-menubar) {
  -moz-box-ordinal-group: 10 !important;
}

#TabsToolbar {
  -moz-box-ordinal-group: 1000 !important;
  display: block !important;
  position: absolute !important;
  bottom: 0 !important;
  width: 100vw !important;
}

#tabbrowser-tabs {
  width: 100vw !important;
}

*|*:root:not([chromehidden*="toolbar"]) #navigator-toolbox {
  padding-bottom: calc(var(--tab-min-height) + 1px) !important; /*adjust*/
}

/* Firefox 65-73 */
*|*:root[tabsintitlebar]:not([inFullscreen="true"]):not([sizemode="maximized"])
 #toolbar-menubar[autohide="true"] ~ #TabsToolbar{
  bottom: var(--tab-min-height) !important;
  padding-top: calc(var(--tab-min-height) - 20px) !important; /*adjust*/
}

/* TABS: height */
*|*:root {
  --tab-toolbar-navbar-overlap: 0px !important;
  --tab-min-height: 25px !important; /*adjust or omit to use density*/
}

*|*:root #tabbrowser-tabs {
  --tab-min-width: 80px !important; /*adjust or omit to use default*/
}

#TabsToolbar {
  height: var(--tab-min-height) !important;
  margin-bottom: 1px !important;
  box-shadow: ThreeDShadow 0 -1px inset, -moz-dialog 0 1px !important; /*omit*/
  background-color: var(--toolbar-bgcolor) !important;
  color: var(--toolbar-color) !important;

Until the recent update I never had trouble restoring tabs after closing Firefox. My Preferences (called Settings now ?) are checked to open previous windows and tabs.

I looked at help on this topic, at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-restore-my-tabs-last-time but the instructions would not work.

When I went to the menu/history, the Recently closed tabs option was grayed out and there is no entry for Restore previous session.

Is this a change in the latest version or a bug of some kind? Thanks.

Hello,

I know that it's possible with Chrome, but I cannot do it with Firefox. Is there preferably) a trick to do it or any add-on ?

Access the history from a tab and then copy one of the link. It's very useful to keep current page open and paste old link (in a mail, a new tab, etc...).

History > Manage history doesn't show anything (but might be normal due to my settings).

Thanks !

I wouldn't be asking for help from a 'volunteer' if I didntt have to. I lost all of my Firefox tabs again (again!) today, in the last half hour. I can't 'restore the previous session'. I'm starting to feel pushed into giving up PC's altogether, with with problem of losing my Firefox session tabs after restarting my PC. Who needs PC devices/smart phones altogether. I'm feeling more and more stupid every time this happens. Why can't mozilla make Firefox robust enough that I can always get my previous session back. This time it happened for a new reason: Firefox had a new window open up when I restarted my PC, with an advertisement for a Disney movie. IF Mozilla is so smart, why can't they fix a problem like this? I see in the Mozilla knowledge base that people ask about this problem frequently.
